They just posted on their website that the half is postponed till November 10th. Anyone running this one? Mr. GT was supposed to run it, but the 10th won't work cause we have Philly the next week.
MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT - We watched and waited with hope as the President met with key Congressional Leaders just minutes ago. They are no closer now than they have been. THE 2013 WOODROW WILSON BRIDGE HALF MARATHON HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN POSTPONED TO NOVEMBER 10, 2013. On behalf of our race directors Craig and Lisa, logistics expert Jeff, volunteer coordinator Taimeka, race assistants Sheina and Lindsay and all the hundreds of volunteers, vendors and support crew way too many to name, WE are heartbroken. We have had October 6 on our minds for a long time and we were ready to execute a beautiful race for you. However, we will have to wait a short five weeks to produce a phenomenal event for all of you. More time for you to train. More details to follow so PLEASE do not ask yet. We are putting out this posting ASAP so you all can now plan a weekend without our race.
It goes up the GW Parkway which is part of the National Parks Service. I know they really didn't want to postpone but they had no choice. I ran it last year and was supposed to volunteer this year. I'm kind of toying with the idea of running it in November but it probably wouldn't be a good idea since I haven't run more than 5 miles recently.
GW parkway is nps land. The parkway Classic was nearly rescheduled one year because of shut down threats.
Now, what I do not understand is how McM will continue. Like 22/26.2 mi are on nps land. How does that work? Granted WW is more of a local race so the implications of postponing are not as severe.
But this development works out well for me. Now I'll be able to do the race! I love that race! Net decline bitches! Woot!

This is what I don't understand. I guess if they cancel MCM 30,000 people will be pissed off instead of the 5,000 running Wilson Bridge.
I'm certainly checking the race locations of any fall races to make sure that they won't be impacted by the shutdown, there are a ton of local races that take place on federal land.

Yes, this concerns me. Race officials have said the race doesn't rely on appropriated funds, but that's only half of the issue. I'm going to hope the shutdown ends before race day.
