the TV this AM told me that many of the local trails are closed: the entire length of the C&O, rock creek park trail, mt vernon, anacostia river trail, roosevelt island, etc.
park police are saying that as long as you don't have to jump a barrier to access the trail, they are not going to be chasing people off. also, I don't understand, logistically, how they would close the trails, but whatever.
ANYWAY, any field reports on which trails are accessible near you? is this actually happening IRL? are they making any attempts to block the trails?
for my part I can report that you can run freely around the mall and the drinking fountains are on (for now at least). haven't attempted to access the paths near the reflecting pool yet though.
Well, mt rainier is closed! I guess that means no trail maintenance and no park rangers if you need help, have questions etc. I'm sure you can get through, but I don't know, you have to pay to get in, I would guess that the roads are blocked getting up there.

Capital Crescent is supposedly closed, but you can ignore the barriers.
Beach Drive is closed to cars, so it's full of cyclists and some runners. They're probably technically not supposed to be there either, but I don't think it can really be enforced.
Sope Creek, a NPS park along the Chattahoochee River, is closed. It's one of the most popular places to run, walk your dog, hike, and mountain bike since it's only 15 minutes outside downtown Atlanta. People have been parking outside of the gates, up and down some residential roads where parking is not allowed, and in people's front yards (!!). The county police have been towing cars and writing tickets.
I'm up a little NW, along the MD/WV line. The C&O parking lots are closed, camping areas and bathrooms are closed, but no one is hard core (eta or even low core, hah) enforcing the trail. I live close to the Anteitam battlefields and they aren't closing all the roads there, since there are farms and houses that need access. I saw a couple people riding their bikes, and a runner friend said he didn't change his normal route. Both of those mentioned will not be useable for races though (my poor race, sad face)
DH is running on the Capitol Crescent Trail as we speak.

I was wondering about this. This is also Columns right? I like to do my long runs there. I wonder if I just rode my bike there and then ran if they could stop me?

Yep...Columns. I read that all of the gates to the parking lots are closed. Some people are parking at other locations and riding/running into the back side of the Sope Creek trails.
P.S. Bad things come in 3s right? So between the Navy Yard shooting, Shutdown, and Capitol shooting we're due for a break right? I am *so* over freaking out every time something happens and worrying about fiends and love ones who are impacted.
Rant over. First federal contractor version of my "furlough" day tomorrow so yay for today being my Friday!
