I just yesterday for the first time looked up the lyrics to Blurred Lines (I know, I know, I'm super behind. Sue me.) and I'm only a decade away from my early 20s/going out days, but I immediately thought if any man referred to me as "the hottest b$*ch in this place." I would be ticked. Bra-burning, fist-clenching mad. Was there really a time I thought that was sort of hot or....endearing? I'm sleep deprived so I don't remember, but I'd like to think no.
If some dude came up to you at the club and whispered-shouted that in your ear, would that be hot? Was I just in a lousy mood when I was listening. You can be honest!
No, I would not think it was hot if a guy said that to me, then or now.
But back in the day, if one of my girlfriends had said it, I'd probably be like "Really??? Thanks, girl!" Then tootsie roll all the way to the dance floor. lol
At every point in my life, I would heavily eyeroll a guy who used the word "bitches" to refer to women. Not because I'm offended, but because it is so toolish.
But I'm easily flattered, so I can't say I don't enjoy "You're the hottest girl in this bar" when not said in a blatantly cheesy pick-up line/I'm going to try this on everyone context.

I must be getting old too (34) because I heard the lyrics to this and was like OMG this can be on the radio? And people...listen? Argh And then I wept a little thinking of my twin three year old girls and how sick things will be by the time they are listening to music in early teens etc
I've not heard "ho" so many times in a song in a seemingly complimentary manner, since, ever.

Ok, this is very accurate. Now, dh is almost ten yrs older than me (he's 43) and uses the term "broads" with some regularity. It doesn't bother me, but is this a function of his age? Like, who says broads? Is this just an older tool thing? Lol He may be a tool, I'm just not sure bc I don't know of anyone else (besides old men and stuff) who say broad I'm not even sure what it's supposed to mean?
I just generally hate that song. My feminist brain goes wild with rage when I hear it.
But to your point, yes, I was just thinking of this the other day. How my mindset has changed from appreciating random "attention" to hating being objectified etc. I see a lot more of the "rape culture" behaviors talked about.
I was never one for club/bar pick up lines though. I mean, by the time I was old enough for that I was already w Jake so it made it easier, but it was just weird. Like -- are you serious with that? Why not just TALK to me and see what's up.
I remember dancing with a guy in a club, having him lean in and whisper "you have really straight teeth". I'm not sure that anything a random dude comes up with while drinking in a club are ever really flattering compliments.
