I'm annoyed with the fact that I have to upgrade the castles before I can complete tasks, like putting up cardboard towers.
I'm having a hard time understanding this. I have a ton of stuff in my inventory that evidently I can't use. Is this because my castle isn't upgraded enough? Will those things suddenly become available to use when I get my castle to level 10 or whatever? I can't even use barbarian homer.
Yes, you have to upgrade before you can access certain things. I think EA is trying to make sure we can't finish everything in 4 days and then complain about how lame the update is

Building destruction is getting serious in the Liu household. H used all of his cheater dice on me last night after I went to bed. Guess whose castles are getting hammered today?
I have 12,000 gold. I decided to upgrade some characters. I upgraded Marge for ~6000 (or whatever). I still had 12,000 gold. Upgraded again. No change in gold. So for whatever reason, the game wasn't deleting the gold I spent. The only thing I couldn't do was upgrade Bart because I needed 13,000 for that.
So get out there and upgrade your characters and see if this is true for you--and before EA figures it out and fixes it!

Yup, it's supposed to be that way. It's more of a level up- type system, where as the elixir is the expendable "use it and lose it" stuff.
Here's a strategy note for virgin players (or anyone else who doesn't want to spend donuts on elixer).
If you're raiding a friend's town, you get 18 elixer for destroying a building, and 25 for destroying a castle. If you're raiding a random player's town, you get 70 elixer for destroying a building, and 140 elixer for destroying a castle.
I've been attacking friends' buildings with one nerd so my friends can get the defense bonus, and then searching random towns for low level players to attack (they usually have lower defenses) with more nerds to maximize my elixer haul. I never use the cheaters dice I earn to clear my town, I use them on random player castles. Hope this helps.

I'm heading out to go camping for the weekend shortly and probably wont be checking more than once a day until Sunday (if that), so feel free to attack all my homes with single nerds to destroy them:)
I'm so sad because one town only has $500K. It's going to take me forever to get enough for that building. I'm excited about the plum tree. I don't like that they resized Madame Chao's. Its hanging over my street.
