PRINCETON - The Princeton University campus is being searched by multiple police agencies after a report that shots were fired inside the iconic Nassau Hall building, university officials say.
Public Safety officers received reports of the possible shooting around 7:55 p.m. and have cordoned off Nassau Hall, a university spokesman said in an email. There have been no reports of any victims.
Princeton police officers were dispatched to the university around to assist the university, Princeton Sgt. Mike Cifelli said. Public Safety's dispatch center had received a single report of the gunfire from someone inside Nassau Hall, he said.
The 911 caller reported hearing two gunshots and sequestered themselves inside a room in Nassau Hall, Cifelli said.
Emergency alerts have been sent out to the campus community, and students and residents are being urged to avoid the area immediately around Nassau Hall, the university spokesman said.
Princeton police have surrounded Nassau Hall, while campus police are forming a wider perimeter, the university said on its official Twitter account.
