I finally talked to my doctor about the irritability and mood swings I've been experiencing for nearly a year. Because it's amplified around the time of my period the doctor said it's most likely PMDD and prescribed citalopram (generic Celexa).
I'm supposed to take 10 mg (1/2 pill) for the first six days then go up to 20 mg (whole pill) and see how I do for ninety days.
I'm on day three of the 10 mg and have been getting a slight headache each day. I think a lot of it is because I'm clenching my jaw and I feel slightly more anxious than I usually do. I don't know if it's necessarily the pill itself or just the idea of needing to be on an AD that has me worked up. Does that make any sense?
My H is really nervous about me taking this. His step-grandmother committed suicide while on ADs so I can understand his concern.
Anyone else care to share thoughts or experiences?
Not necessarily having to do with citalopram, but ADs in general I guess.
I took Citalopram and felt generally like crap until my body got used to it (probably 1.5-2 weeks). That has been the case with any ADs I've taken. You have to give it time.

The headache is very slight and not really alarming. I figured there will be a bit of a breaking-in period and if this is it I'm okay with that.
If this helps me manage my mood a little better and not blow up at H for screwing the mayonnaise lid too tightly or completely lose it because I over-cooked a pizza it's worth it.
insert code here Give it a couple of weeks for your body to adjust. I have been taking celexa for over a year now, & I love it. I have been on numerous other AD's & this is by far the best one I've used. Just a warning though, always be sure to keep it filled, & do not run out. If I even miss a day or 2, I feel terrible ( dizzy, irritable, & just plain awful). Good luck, & I hope you start feeling better hon.
