We usually travel on our own. We are tossing around ideas for next winter, and Thailand is high on our list. We'd like to end the trip in the islands, but I get easily bored at the beach so I'm hesitant about the resorts. Lonely Planet recommends a 6-night catamaran cruise of the islands through G Adventures. Has anyone used this company (or better yet, this tour in particular?)
30-year old couple, middle-of-the-road budget (not backpackers, not super luxury), like to do our own thing, but we also tend to make friends on our trips (my husband is extremely social). This would be at the end of a longer trip to include Bangkok and Chang Mai and maybe a few nights hiking.
I went with GAdventures to Antarctica. It was my only trip with them, but a lot of people I met had booked other tours. I was generally pleased, and most of my fellow travelers had good things to say.
In the case of Antarctica, it was a very mixed crowd. Everyone from early 20s backpackers to retirees. However, there were plenty of late 20s to early 40s people. Since they don't charge extra for single travelers, I think they get a lot of well-traveled 30-something singles who have the travel bug and the budget to spend it on but don't necessarily want to go alone. I would definitely expect a more active and travel-savvy crowd.
I've been seriously considering one of their yacht sailings in the Greek Islands.
The only negative things I can say about the company are: 1. The lady who met our group in Ushuaia was kind of disorganized, but she was only there for the first night and wasn't actually one of our CEOs. 2. I think CEO is a cheesy term for the tour leaders. I believe it stands "Chief Experience Officer." 3. They have kind of a weird cult around the company's actual CEO, Bruce. But he's a Twitter-addict, so if you tweet during your trip, he's fairly likely to reply or retweet it.
ETA - I got to know some of our tour staff pretty well, which is why I think they're a little fanatical about Bruce. But they were all pretty cool.
I did through Vietnam and Cambodia. I appreciated not having to move my ass from Point A to Point B and arrange accommodation, which the tour took care of.
I didn't want to have nobody but my SO to speak to for a month, so that was another big reason why I went with a tour. We had a fun mix of people age 18-34 (it was a YOLO trip, though I don't know if they call it anymore since that term has been adopted by youthful idiots) and made some great friends.
I'd do it again, though next time I'll do more research about what I want to do at each one of the destinations. We got presented with options at each stop, though not a lot of different options and I'm sure not competitive prices.

I am actually leaving Wednesday for the Everest trip through G Adventures. If you want, I can contact you when I get back and let you know how it was. My sister did a Thailand and Bali trip with G Adventures which is part of the reason that I chose that company. I'm fairly certain she didn't do the cruise trip but I know she enjoyed herself. She did say that the people on her trip were a little clique-y (she travelled solo and most of the people on her trip did not). She wasn't keen on following an itinerary so she ended up ditching the group in Bali and doing her own thing. I think I will stay with my group
