So all my FB/IRL friends say its great. Why the big difference in opinion there? Obviously it seems MM does not agree with this concensus. Do my FB/IRL friends just not have good taste in books? (That wouldn't surprise me though, lol)

They think it's great because it's the only erotica they've ever read, and the novelty of the genre was enough to make them overlook the atrocious writing. Either that or they just have bad taste in books...
I read them to see what all the hype was about. I found myself skipping over the sex scenes and just reading the rest. It was not an example of high quality writing.

Probably both! The people that have been saying its awesome are not the people I knew to be into reading! lol
Now if my MIL told me it was good, I would believe her. She reads more than I do, and I read a lot!
It's not good. The writing is horrible and the author basically just stole the characters from twilight. If you really want to read it (the smut is decent) then google "master of the universe PDF" but please don't pay for it!
I got totally sucked in and attempted to read it. I couldn't get past the horrific writing. It is BAD. BAD as in my 7-year-old could develop better characters. The repetition was unbearable. I got 3 chapters in, gave up and then skipped to the "juicy" parts in the hopes of finding something redeeming. I gave up. The Kindle reviews are scathing. I'm still in shock that this is a best seller.
Someone tried to tell me it is a book? about Twilight-based porn and I just tuned out at that point because I don't give two shits about Twilight. Not even when porn is involved.
eta: Is this about furries dressed at vampires and werewolves or some shit?
Bored housewife becomes a Twilight fanatic, writes fanfic of Twilight. Publishers find it, they edit out all the twilight references, a few tweaks here and there, and publish it. Other bored housewives love it. Furries would have made it better.
I think they're planning a movie. Furries would definitely made it better.
At least she didn't plagiarize most of the book unlike a certain author whose book is actually Harry Potter fanfic in disguise.

I'm seeing the same split in opinion. I suspect it's partly because people who dislike the books are less likely to post about it on FB, whereas an open discussion on a board will elicit reviews of all stripes.
So, so bad. I think she doesn't really understand what the word gasp means, as in she has her characters gasp every single time another character says or does anything.

Bingo! I was so excited after all the hype, but the writing is horrible. Yet, I'm still reading it
I tried to explain it to a coworker that said she was given the book. She was told that it would be great for her marriage. I sent her the Wikipedia link and never heard anything else about it.

LOL! So, this one time, in downtown Atlanta, we accidentally walked into a furry convention... I should probably write a post about that, but I had to laugh. I think I'm going to start adding "furries would make it better" to reviews.
If you want to read good (well better than 50 shades of grey) housewife erotica you should check out The Outlander Series.
I like the Outlander series, but I think sending someone into it expecting erotica is not very accurate. It has some sex scenes, but like one or two for every 1000 pages of historical fiction/military history/drama.

ha ha, okay you are right. I do think the ratio is a little higher! That book has some very good scenes.
Same with the Sookie Stackhouse series
And I think I heard Housewife Erotica somewhere, I doubt I made it up!
The writing can be pretty awful and repetitive, but I found the story interesting enough. My neighborhood book club decided to read it, otherwise I may have skipped it.

Dammit. I guess I just wasted $10 on it for my nook. I was hearing all "good" hype from Fb friends and I didn't even look into the true reviews. So unlike me too. Ugh. I refuse to read any Twilight and yeah, I've read good erotica so now I'm just going to go pout that I'm a moron and wasted the $.
Was it The Magicians? That was like HP meets Narnia fanfic.
Ooooh. I would have to agree. I had high expectations for that book and it totally sucked. It was a really poorly done rip-off of HP with a twist of Narnia. I was very meh about it all.
For people looking for an HP-esque book (well, magic at least) - I HIGHLY recommend the Night Circus.

I can't even imagine the awkwardness of discussing that book at book club!?!
The books are poorly written and kind of immature for, but there is a lot of sexy scenes. If that's what you're looking for, there are a lot better books out there.
People are saying it's good because for some reason it's socially acceptable erotica. It's not good. You can get the original twilight fanfiction pdf for free online.
is there actually a plot to these books? I skimmed about 80 pages of the PDF and all it seemed was- oh hai, I'm a virgin. oh hai, I'm a hot executive, let me dominate you, let's fuck.
I just couldn't get through anymore. It was SO SO bad.
