Cec is just discovering Llama Llama. They're not my favorite but she loves them.
The ones she really loves are: Peter Rabbit (and all the rest) Charlie and Lola series Runaway Bunny Maisy the Mouse series (which she's now using to sound out words)
And this one is still the favorite: The Sandwich Swap by Queen Rania al Abdullah of Jordan. It has been over a year that she has been asking for it often and calling it her favorite. My mom's gradeschool bff gave it to DD with an inscription (that we must always read too). I actually really like it for the content and think DD does in part also. Cute pictures, a tale of two school buddies, a food fight.....and the writing is cute.
ETA: Berenstain Bears and Usborne series "That's Not My....(fill in the blank object)" Also using that one for sounding out words. Used it for a tactile board book when she was really little. Also No David.

Sandra Boynton. Her board books are hilarious and awesome. The Going to Bed Book and Hippos Go Berserk are two of my personal favorites, and the first time I read 15 Animals it made me LOL. My girls also love Blue Hat, Green Hat.
Ditto Brown Bear.
And pretty much anything by Julia Donaldson. The Gruffalo is awesome and it was made into an adorable, Oscar-nominated animated short film. The Gruffalo's Child is good, but not quite as good as the original. The Snail and The Whale is great, and right now my girls are loving Room on the Broom.
ETA: Oh, and for Harry Potter lovers, the Gruffalo animated movie is a hoot and full of familiar voices -- Helena Bonham Carter, John Hurt (Ollivander) and Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) as the Gruffalo.

::sobs:: Nobody has said Dr Seuss? Maurice Sendak? Harold and the Purple Crayon? Blueberries for Sal? I'm old. Damnitalltohell.
If it makes you feel better, we have Seuss, Sendak (Wild Things) and Harold in our book collection. They just aren't favorites.
I loved Seuss as a kid, but many of his books annoy me as an adult. I still think The Cat in the Hat is genius, and there are other good ones like The Sneetches, but in some of the books it seems like he's just sticking Y's and Z's on words in order to make them "silly", and it just goes on and on and on. Fox in Socks and Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are drive me crazy for that reason, and as much as I like some parts of One Fish Two Fish, it's so random-yet-repetitive that it gets tedious.
Seuss's best books are the ones with a plot, IMO.
However, some of the classics that I do love to read to my kids and that they like are: Put Me in the Zoo Are You My Mother The Diggingest Dog Frog & Toad
sonrisa is your dd in preschool? you may want to ask if her daycare/prek participates in scholastic reading club. really great age appropriate books for fantastic prices.
