My cat was making frequent litter box visits last night. Once we fed him dinner he seemed to calm down for the night.
Since I woke up this morning he's been in there 4 or 5 times in the past 2 1/2 hours. I've fed him now and he's wandered away but I'm watching to see if he heads back. He isn't always producing anything but he is always burying.
I'm taking him to the vet today and watching to see if he makes any more return trips. I can't tell if he has something wrong with him or just ends up near his litter box and figures he'd might as well visit it.
Definitely could be an infection. If you find he isn't producing anything at all he needs to get to a vet ASAP as it can turn life threatening if he has a urinary blockage. Chances are there is something wrong as this is not his normal behavior, or typical behavior of a cat in general.
He's definitely producing, just not every time. It reminds me of when I used to get UTIs... you never feel "empty". Thanks for the heads up though. I'll change his litter so I know for sure.
That's exactly how my cats act when they have UTIs. Frequent long litter box trips, not always peeing when they go, and occ going other places in the house.
I'd definitely get him checked, but as an FYI: if you mix apple cidar vinegar and water either give him a little bit by dropper or in water/food it could help stave off future UTI when he starts showing symptoms. My cats used to constantly get UTIs and I started doing this and it helped .
