All of this BFing and pumping talk has me thinking back to when I BF and pumped for LO. I have a funny story that I'm not sure I've posted before, so I figured I'd share it today while we're on the topic.
I have my own office where I'd pump twice a day. The front is covered in windows that are open to the entire office, but I was given a privacy shade to pull closed when I pumped. One day I received a phone call with an emergency legal question that happened to come from another new mom who worked for our company. I told her I had no probelm talking but I'd need to pump during our call and I'd need to call her back once I was set up. No problem, she totally understood.
So I'm sitting there at my desk, shirt off and just a hands free bra on, pump attached to my chest, on the phone with this lady, when all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I see a flash of white. It was my male coworker walking by my office! In my haste to set up the pump and get back on the phone to answer her question, I forgot to close my privacy shades and I was basically exposing myself to the entire office! I jumped out of my chair, phone flies out of my hand, breastmilk starts puring all over my desk (I came unattached from the pump when I jumped), and I run to lower the shade. Co-worker never mentioned it, but I'm sure he was freaked out since he has no kids and probably never saw breasts being used the way nature intended! And who the heck knows how many other people saw me that day!
Can't wait to start pumping at work again after this next baby is born. This time I'll be sure to double and triple check to make sure I'm in private!
I don't have a lock on my door, but I put up a sign and closed the shades every time I pumped so people knew not to come in. In hindsight it's funny that it happened, but at the time I was mortified!
