How are you doing? Any big plans for today?
Last night I was searching the web and discovered that not only is there a Korean restaurant in my city, but it's only about a 5 minute walk from where I live! I thought maybe it was new, but it's been there for more than 25 years. I can't wait to try it. They don't have too wide a selection, but they do have some of my favorites.
QOTD: What discoveries have you recently found where you live that have you excited?
Good "morning"! It's 1 am here and I'm up for a snack. These starving in the middle of the night episodes are getting kinda old. Today I have a few work-related appointments in the morning and then practice in the afternoon.
QOTD: we recently discovered a farmers market that happens twice a week two blocks from our place. This is like a breakthrough discovery since it means that we no longer have to spend $6 for 2 (TWO) spinach bunches at the supermarket! We can afford vegetables again!
Hello! Working all day (blah, but only like a week more to go before my 6 week vacation..the perks of being a teacher!), DH and I are finally going to pick up our new car tonight (!), hopefully going for a run when we get home and I'm going to make DH makes us dinner (this will be interesting).
QOTD: Recently? Not much, but when we've made some nice discoveries in the past year or so. There's some amazing bike trails along the canals that connect the nearby lakes, lots of beaches on these lakes, and there's lots of beautiful hiking in the area. Living in Switzerland does have advantages
I'm babysitting in the morning time. The afternoon is free for me to do as I please. Don't know what I will do.
QOTD: I have a lot... Across the street from us is a school with a community garden. There are tons of adorable bunnies there! I can walk 10 minutes and get frozen yogurt. And there is a great mom and pop grocery store right near our apartment. Has tons of import foods from Poland and other Eastern European countries.
Morning! Today I'm feeling good, the sun is shining, and all in all it seems like it will be a good day! ;D I'm also munching on crackers with boursin cheese and it's like heaven. MMmm. Today, just have to take Kernel to meet the new pediatrician and that's it.
Also, I'll have to walk the dogs at some point and since today is Tuesday DH won't get home until around 9:45 so I'm putting Kernel to bed on my own. DH is taking a German class and it's every Tuesday and Thursday in Frankfurt s he gets home a bit later. I'm not complaining though because on normal days he's getting home by 7 every night--huge change from Madrid! So I'm a happy camper in that respect.
QOTD: Hmmm, I'm not sure of anything recently. I found the pool last week and that was nice. We're not to far and it's a really gorgeous pool area with huge grassy areas to hang out and a nice big kiddy pool.

I just have to say it's really nice to see you so happy! I am really glad your move went so smoothly and that you guys were able to get out on your own so quickly. I know you were having a hard time in Switzerland (though now you miss it I'm sure!) and it's just really good to see things looking up for you guys. I hope I don't sound creepy saying this...

Germany has such awesome Badi's. All the open space to lay out and have a little picnic. Then cooling off in the water.

Haha! Thanks popcorn. ;D Yes things seem to be moving smoothly here! We got so lucky with our move, job, and university situation. My husband is such a dual nationality man. He just thrives in both countries. He's been my rock.
I deeply miss living in Zurich. Mostly because it was family and smaller then Chicago. Oh and safer. But as I get more accustom to the big city it's gotten easier.
We will likely move back again for a slightly longer time. (FIL thinks we should move there for good and then take the pension and move back to the US and retire. Hell no...) By then both of us will have better prospects. I would at least have a degree.

I dont want to kill the happy mood in this thread but it is hot as hell :@ It is not even July yet and I want to kill myself. Yesterday, the thermometer said it was 43ÂșC and last night we had one of those "tropical nights" where it was in the 30s.
I have a lot of boring errands and work to do around the house. Looking for my motivation.
QOTD: I found that they are selling American brownie mix at my local Carrefour for only 3.50.
It's been unseasonably cool in Zurich the past few days. I'm busy baking oatmeal cookies with my imported brown sugar. Then will cook stuffed bell peppers with my newly found black beans.
QOTD: I recently found canned black beans! For over 2.5 years I could never find them and had to resort to stocking up when back in the US. When I found them last week I bought the entire store shelf (14 cans!)
DD is on the mend, her fever is down, but I am keeping her home from school for one more day. I am trying to get her out of the house soon so we can hit the farmer's market before it folds for the day. Word on the street is that the Taco Truck that is there on Tuesdays is truly incredible and I still haven't tried it!
QOTD: I am all about ethnic food in Paris lately. But, I was pleased as punch last night to discover that the bistro across the street will let us order take-out now that we're regular customers. I called and explained DD was sick. DH picked up some food from them on his way home from work and they told us we can "bring the ceramic plates back in the morning." I'm not sure if that makes me feel really Parisian/part of the neighborhood or really American!
Today I'm kind of down. Someone I love is having substance abuse problems and it weighs really heavy on me. I grew up with an alcoholic mother and just more of that is so hard for me to deal with. I can't really focus on anything today and feel tired and sad. I went out to buy a kitty condo cratching pole today for our kitten (she's not even here yet!!!) to cheer me up. I also got some cooking mags to read. I should be dissertating but instead I am doing laundry and cleaning and distracting myself with mags and kitty stuff. It's weird but when I get down emotionally I sometimes can't function academically. It used to freak me out. Now I just feel guilty.
QOTD: There are so many cute restaurants and pubs within walking distance around town. I want to try them all. Also, there are a lot of farmer's markets.
Morning, I just made breakfast and played with "my" cat Cleo (I'm staying at my parents and she lives with them) for a little bit. She's been acting a little neurotic the past few days, which has me nervous because she's 12 years old. I'm off to a 3ish hour bar exam prep class, which requires a 1.5 hour drive. Hopefully going to get a nice walk in later assuming it isn't scorching hot out.
I found an Indian restaurant nearby. It really is new. It used to be an Italian place that didn't look that great, but I want to check the Indian place out!

Morning! Today I'm going to try to get some work done on my dissertation again after having a week off while we were on vacation.
QOTD: Well, since we're currently living in the place I lived since I was born (well, we moved when I was 4, but just to a neighboring town), I can't say there's a whole lot of room for discovery. I discovered that the basil and cilantro I planted in our garden at the beginning of summer thrives in the garden in a way it never has in my German potters. :- ( Probably has something to do with the sun, though. Here it gets full sun and in Germany we only have sun in the afternoon.
