WHY are most nursing clothes nursing AND maternity clothes. Don't clothes designers understand that the majority of us that are nursing are no longer pregnant? I mean I get it I have a little bit of a gut but not enough to accomodate a maternity outfit. Bah.
I'm with you. And while they're at it, make nursing clothes to accomodate a large size chest compared to the waistline since most of us go up in bra size while going down in waist after the birth.

And why are nursing tops cut so low? I have to wear a cami under the ones I have so my giant boobs aren't on display which makes them useless as nursing tops. Now I just have two ugly, ill-fitting v-neck shirts on occasionally.

I have no clue why the tops are cut so low! I mean I can just wear normal low cut tops to BF out of. I have just started buying regular faux-wrap shirts/dresses. They seem to work well.
I never wore any nursing specific clothing other than bras or tanks with my daughter. I was excited to see the nursing clothes at Target, but they were horrible. I was really disappointed.
I have a bunch of nursing tops, and aside from the pj ones I rarely wear them because they suck. I just find ways to modify my regular outfits to be nursing friendly. I either wear a nursing tank and pull my shirt up, or wear a v neck with a cami under it and pull the cami up and v neck down. I have also found wrap or kimono dresses to be great for nursing. They really do need to come out with some better options.
I never wore anything special for nursing other than a nursing tank under my regular shirts. I just pulled my shirt up and unhooked the clip on the tank. I still wear my tanks (Bravado brand I think) - they were so comfy!
I also wish there were nursing tanks without the shelf bra part so it would be easier to wear a bra under them . The shelf bra is not really enough support for going out in public but I want the tank for tummy coverage.

Yeah, I hate wearing tanks under other shirts. I think it makes me look heavier. I also need nicer things that I can wear to work (since I nurse at lunch). I know that on Selfie's blog she has some really cool shirts that just look like regular shirts but they have a clip part like with the nursing tanks. But they are expensive!

This is what I do, I just wear a nursing tank under my outfit. I don't need to worry about that shelf bra not being enough support, luckily. I wore mine to work w/ my older daughter, too, and don't think that they made me look unprofessional. But I didn't have to wear suits or anything super dressy.

I'm trying Undercover Mama's tank that attaches to most nursing bras to convert it into a custom bra/tank combo. Hopefully it works well cause i like my belly being covered if i have to lift my shirt. I saw a similar DIY conversion on pinterest.

Yep, my poor DDDs don't get any support from a shelf bra! The bra fitter at Nordstrom actually recommended these to me. It should arrive from Amazon today!
I never wore/wear nursing specific clothes beyond bras or tanks either. There are certain clothes I did not wear while I was nursing because there was no access, but many of my regular clothes worked fine--I wore wrap dresses, button down shirts, v-neck shirts, tanks under tees, shirts and dresses out of stretchy material, etc. I also wore cardigans and used them to kind of cover myself if I was wearing a shirt I had to pull up. I could not wear some of the sheath dresses I normally wear to work, but other than that it worked fine.
My boobs are so big that if I pull a vneck or wrap dress down under my boob, it stretches it out. Is that not an issue for other people? Are you buying clothes really big so the neckline is low enough?
I can see how that could be an issue--I am just not trained to think about the issues that come with being well-endowed. I have a small chest (32B/34A, though I briefly flirted with a C when I was engorged and nursing a newborn), so maybe that is why I can nurse in my regular clothes. I had never thought about the ability to expose one's nipple without stretching out one's shirts as an advantage of being flat-chested.
