We have family pictures a week from today. I have no idea what DS and I are going to wear.
S.O. is wearing this:
(kinda hard to tell, but it's a dark navy)
We'll be outdoors in a park, so I know I want to a sweater and jeans (I love the look of a sweater with skinny jeans, tall boots and a scarf). I just have no idea what colors to wear to coordinate. I particularly like emerald green, aqua or a rust-shade of orange on me.

I think you should wear a cream or white sweater with a colorful, patterned sarf, jeans and boots and then your DS should wear a patterned shirt with navy and whatever color you choose for your scarf.
I like your idea of adding in green/aqua - mustard/rust orange would be good too.
I'd go with aqua, since it looks good on you and is in the same color family as SO's shirt, and put your son in a blue color as well. Rust might blend with the background too much (assuming its fall in Philly). I'd stay away from patterns since the background will be busy.
Jewel tones look awesome in photos. I'd go with a teal colored sweater. Not sure what color scarf would go though...
I have a dark teal sweater from Target.
At the mall I saw a teal sweater with a tan scarf.
I was kind of thinking that if you look good in teal, then a scarf would cover up or distract from that color, especially since its near your face. Maybe a monochrome teal on teal look? Or maybe a tan sweater with a teal scarf as a pop of color? I think you'll just have to post pics in different ensembles so we can choose.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. A scarf might be distracting with a bright sweater. I was going to suggest a white scarf with the teal sweater, but I think you want the bolder color to draw attention to your face. You could go neutral sweater (maybe grey?) and then a teal scarf. I did a winter photo with a heather black/white coat and a teal scarf and I loved how it came out.

Yes - a grey sweater with a teal scarf! Grey would look nice with your SO's shirt.
