Hey everyone, long time no 'see'. Not sure if you remember me, I haven't been around in awhile. I have Chilly (the golden mix) & Pepper (the Blue Heeler mix). They're doing great, but this post isn't about them. I wanted to hear your thoughts on another issue.
A couple days ago, my not close fb friend posted about a training class she attended for her new puppy. FB friend has 2 non-fur babies under the age of 3. She just got a puppy & signed up for a training class. The first class was an orientation & she was told to bring her whole family except her dog.
During the orientation the trainer's dog bit her 2 year old on the face, very close to his eye. The boy is fine, but was told to see his pedi just to be sure there was no eye trauma.
The day following the orientation, fb friend called the trainer & said she does not feel comfortable training her dog with her & asked for her money back. According to fb friend, the trainer refused the refund, did not apologize for the dog bite & blamed the toddler for the dog's reaction. She said the toddler should not be running in that close proximity to the dog.
I understand the trainer's statement regarding the toddler running, but wouldn't you think the point of the orientation would be to explain these types of things to new pet owners?
Obviously, I wasn't there & am only hearing her side of the story, but what do you all think?
I think your friend should remind trainer that trainer's dog big her child in the face, and that a refund is the least trainer can do.
If that doesn't work, I would speak to the manager (if there is one) regarding this issue.
Finally, I would caution trainer that she doesn't want me informing others in the community about the incident, and I would inform the trainer that it is my preference that all of this be handled without attorneys.

This is what I would do.
If a dog bites a child here it has to be reported, and the dog may be put down for it. (Depending on the history and such) I think the trainer should take this seriously and just give the money over before legal action takes place.
Edit: it would be reported by the doctor that the family saw. (He would be an automatic reporter)

I am surprised to hear that the trainer isn't taking the bite incident more seriously. You'd think that being in the industry they would realize how serious this could be and consider a refund to be the easy way out!
