I'm with emilyinchile on the hats. Can't do it. I'm scurrred it will mess up my hair, scared it will look like I'm trying too hard... scared it will look (or actually BE) too small on my somewhat massive noggin... it's just a a mess.
Peplums. I don't need to try them on to validate that I don't look good in them.
See-through anything. No one needs to see how my rolls roll.
Leggings in public. I did manage to go out in public with a tunic at our recent NYC trip, but that's just because no one knows me there; who would publicly laugh in my face.
I agree with raangoli about the fear of tucking in shirts. I don't know if I have a short torso or what, but I always feel so awkward when I try tucking in shirts.

I can't bring myself to try on anything peplum. I don't want to know how bad that looks.
I won't buy sheer tops because even though I'd wear a cami or whatever under them, I just assume that I'll never find the right cami that will actually look right underneath, and the top will just go to waste.

Scarves. I love them, but I never know what to do with them.
Tights. I don't own any. They make me feel like I am in 2nd grade, even though I know adults can wear them and look good in them.
Leggings. They seem so comfortable and stylish, but I feel like there is a fine line between leggings looking nice and looking trashy. I don't want to end up at trashy.
I don't buy sheer tops because they don't make camis with straps wide enough to cover my bra straps. And I do not need to be wearing unnecessary layers.
Actually I stay away from layering clothing in general. I do not need to make my top half look thicker.
Oh, another one: being perceived as a person who wears the same outfit all the time.
Same. Social media has made this so much worse. I find myself shopping (especially for weddings, showers, etc) just so I don't repeat dresses. Which is so dumb because if it ain't broke... Don't GO BROKE.

I am younger than the norm for my job so I want to look my age but also like I am supposed to be in my position. So dressing appropriately is my big fear. And since this may be temporary, I don't want to spend money or time thinking about it.
The nice thing about being 62 is that I know how to dress me and no longer even want the latest thing. v, I think I'm being very French and sophisticated. But maybe I'm just afraid of getting dowdy and what I have works. I seldom buy clothes.
Good thread!
I do appreciate seeing ladies in refined outfits. I just imagine them on their way meeting girlfriends for brunch, or going to the latest function, etc. I would hope to be in a position where I can go through my weekend day doing just that. Sadly; our weekend is full of dog park and dog-related events.
I have big boob fears. I'm always worried about too much cleavage. I won't wear button downs because they never fit right over huge boobs and I have popped buttons more than once.
I also am afraid of crotch whiskers. I hate that I can never get pants to fit right without a tailor. I wear a lot of dresses/skirts.
I have conflicting feelings about wanting to have fun with fashion and embrace the trends while I'm young(ish) (one where I look back at pictures and feel like I was really enjoying the time...much how I look back at some of my 90s fashions) and wanting to have a classic timeless look that I'll look back at pictures and think that still looks good today.
Also, somewhat contradictory to calling myself young(ish) in the statement above, I do feel like I'm getting a little too old for some things and I hate that. I find that sometimes the younger trends are better suited to my body type, but at the same time I don't want to look like the old lady that's trying to hold on to her youth. I've been thinking about this recently and thinking I should get rid of some of my summer dresses.

YES! OMG WTF with the Peplums? I just don't "get it."
I wear a t-shirt/ shell with a cardigan and pants or a skirt almost every. single. day. Or a dress with a cardigan. I feel like I need different blocks of color to break the bulk up. I'm willing to branch into patterns, but can't seem to find something I like...
- Button down shirts at work (I'm a DD. Nope Nope Nope). I have one from J Crew that I can get away with, but it's a casual/looser style.
Oh man, I'm right here next to you on the big boob train. I love how great button up shirts look, but totally cannot pull them off. No one wants to lose an eye from a button popping off of my shirt...
Tying everything together. I have lots of great clothes, but I struggle to put them together into a great outfit.
Also, scarves.
This! It's gotten to the point where I have to sit in the dressing room thinking of at least 2 outfits I can make with an item, b/c I feel like I have a lot of "random" pieces w/o outfits and that makes for a weird wardrobe.
Matching things perfectly. Like noodleoo said, I don't take enough risk with mixing things up. I stick within the comfort zone of neutrals. I have tried to branch out and bought a cobalt blue pencil skirt. I'd like to carry it through to the fall/winter but what color tights do I wear?
Also, I hate to wear tights and end up with a muffin top.
Oh tights. They also cause me anxiety. I can handle black tights, black shoes (that's what I'd wear with a cobalt skirt), but I would love to wear other colors, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it without looking like Punky Brewster.
Try out colored sheers before you move into opaque colored tights. I love American Apparels colored sheer hose.

- Leggings as pants. I'm very self-conscious of my thighs.
Have you tried fashion tape at all? I'm a D and it's saved my life with button downs. Also, I find the more expensive the button down, the less I have this problem. Brooks Brothers shirts are great for this in particular.
My only fear right now is that the cropped top thing is going to really take off and all the longer shirts are going to disappear. I've been hoarding long shirts/sweaters because I've been seeing more and more cropped things in NYC.
In terms of things I'm afraid to wear, I know what looks good one me and what doesn't. So I don't wear what doesn't.

I'm with you on the crop top dread but considering this look was all over the Spring 2014 fashion show runways I fear we're going to see a lot of it.

True story: The other day I wondered what @ameliapond would do with that cobalt skirt. Mostly because I bought it (the BR Sloan skirt) because your outfit of the day posts
Oh, belts. I own a few skinny belts, but they came with dresses. The only belt I own is a black/brown reversible one.
Belts! OMG they terrify me.
I recently got over my fear of tucking shirts in. I don't think I tucked a shirt in for a good 10 years until a few months ago. I was convinced tucking things in made me look fatter. I binge watched What Not to Wear this summer though, and I think I might get it now. So now that you can see the belt line in some of my outfits, I feel like I have to master belts, and I just cannot figure them out. And the whole belt over a shirt or dress look? Yeah, I have no idea what to do about that.
I try to read online about how to wear belts, but they all talk about things like "put them on your natural waist", but never tell me where the fuck that is.
I never tuck my shirt in and I haven't since high school were the uniform was a hideous plaid skirt and polo shirt. I never wear belts either.

This is me too! I have looked at scarves for what, 5 years now, and I just can't pull the trigger. I feel like a dope. I suck at accessories in general.
I turned the corner on leggings last fall, when I was pregnant. Old Navy maternity leggings with boots were the best thing ever, and they are awesome post partum because they are cut super low and let the belly hang over top in comfort. They should be passed out before Thanksgiving dinner.
I think success of leggings is directly related to the length of the top.

I'm wearing my cobalt Minnies today with a grey sweater and my new Frye Lindsay boots.

See, I have this mental block that the tights are supposed to match either the skirt or the shoes. When I have three colors below the waist, I feel like Punky Brewster. I have been working very hard at becoming more fashionable, but putting outfits together is still hard for me because I am really trying to get out of a rut. The more items that I introduce into the mix, the harder it becomes for me. So even doing black skirt, colored tights, black shoes makes getting dressed harder because I'd rather not have to think about that extra item. That and I don't like the way any of my black shoes look with tights.
I am however, quite good with jewelry and scarves. There may be hope for me with the colored tights some day. LOL.
