This is apparently an old piece, but I just heard it recently on NPR. It's about how certain strains of probiotics apparently may have an impact on stress and anxiety levels. I was sort of thinking about trying them out. If you take probiotics, why? What do they do for you?
I am currently taking probiotics because I am taking an antibiotic which is going to destroy my gut flora and I want to repopulate. Having healthy gut bacteria is really important for overall health.
I put a few tablespoons of kefir or another yogurt with probiotics in my smoothie. I've heard from several nutritionists and a GP that they can be really important in keeping your gut healthy, helping to ward off things like the cold/flu, and keeping things good when you're on antibiotics.
I figure there is no HARM in probiotics but I don't know enough to say that I think they are super important. I'm no nutritionist!
