I saw you mentioned that you were going gluten-free in the post below. If you haven't heard of this blog yet, you should check it out. I make a lot of the recipes for DH because he is diabetic and her almond flour based recipes have fewer carbs than flour based recipes. Definitely use the almond flour she recommends (Honeyville). I made these the other day (minus 3 T agave) and topped them with her cream cheese frosting ( minus 2 T agave) and they're amazing. They taste like pumpkin pie with ice cream. Yum, yum, yum. Oh, and her cinnamon bun muffins are sooooo good... www.elanaspantry.com/pumpkin-pie-muffins/ www.elanaspantry.com/creamy-cream-cheese-frosting/
For now, I'll probably stick with buying single serve desserts at Whole Foods or a local cupcake shop since I don't know if I'll be doing this long-term. But I'm definitely compiling resources for the future!
Does this mean you cant have beer? My friend is gluten-free and she only drinks cider.
AB makes gluten free beer and to quote a friend "It's better than a kick in the nuts"
But there is a company in Canada that makes it and the market is growing. Instead Using Barley as a primary and Wheat/Rye as alternatives you use Gluten free grains.
Milwaukee's own Lakefront Brewery - which is where I had my wedding reception - actually makes a GF beer. (In fact, it was the first beer in the country certified by the gub'mint as gluten free!) It's not bad. The first few sips are weird while you adjust to the taste, but then it's OK. But I will be making an exception to this GF thing for a few bottles of homebrew!
Since I don't actually have celiac, my PA was most in favor of cutting out breads, pastas, and flour-based sweets. I don't think she's so worried about the stray crouton on a salad, you know?
