I have a marathon in about 2 weeks. I was consistently training and doing well until a few weeks ago. I made it to 16 miles feeling good until the issues with my knee started.
I had to take 2 weeks off and it's been so hard getting back in the groove. There's shit to do every night for school, I have a freaking wedding every weekend- and I haven't been running like I should. I've basically been doing long runs on the weekends and that's it. I just did a half almost 2 weeks ago and I haven't run since. How fucked am I?
So I'm going out now, at 9pm, for a quick 6 mile jog because I have to. But I really, really don't want to. Then I need to come home, clean the tub since the guy is coming to fix it tomorrow, finish getting Ollie's lunch together and try to crawl into bed by 11. I have no energy left.
Watch the episode from HIMYM about Barney running the marathon. Are your goals just to finish one? Is the time-limit friendly to first time runners? I'll be honest (H&F board flames coming) if you just want to finish, and the time limit is friendly, go for it
I'm not a runner but I have some friends who are. At 2 weeks out, after 2 weeks off, if you haven't done your 20 mile training run yet, I don't believe that it would be a good idea to run a whole race.

Goal is absolutely to finish.
I still plan on attempting it, taking it at about 10min/mile and not beating myself up for walking when I need to. Does that still sound too optimistic?

That's my plan for Sunday. Last weekend was suppose to be it, but I was away all weekend for the wedding.

That sounds awesome! (I haven't followed your posts but 10 min/mile is AWESOME for a first marathon!!!) I'd caution (not following your posts) to allow yourself some breathing room in your goals. At this point the worst that can happen is that the swag-wagon gives you a ride to the finish ride (injuries non-withstanding- kcock on wood)). Go for it, just don't risk injury, enjoy!! You can do this!!!

Oh I plan on just maintaining a 10min/mile to start, I don't care where I finish! Lol. I usually get that rush of adrenaline at the start and with a sub 9 min/mile then fade fast later- I can't let that happen here.
So I haven't (and won't ever) done a full before either, so what I have to add might be super sucky.
But I was sidelined for a good month while training for my last half. When I was finally good to start running again, I had to kick it up big time in the span of two weeks. I picked up my long runs and just added another mile every other day. I started at four and finished a 10-miler the week of the half. Wouldn't have been my first choice in training, but I didn't want to skip the half and it actually worked out really well. It helped that I picked up the Galloway run/walk method and it even helped my time a little.
I've never done a full marathon, but I have done a half marathon untrained with knee issues ... it was a bad idea. Now, I still think you should do it. Because I would. But I'd wear a wrap to start with and maybe do some squats or something to try to strengthen those surrounding muscles. And make sure your shoes are way supporting.
Obviously I'm no pro, but learn from my mistakes.
Lol- this is advice I can get behind! It's a terrible idea, but you should still totally do it. I'm taking this advice because I like the sound of it : )

Hmm - the marathon is two weeks from this Sunday? If I were you, I wouldn't do 20 this weekend - you should be in your taper zone at this point, reducing mileage to give your body (especially your knee) time to recover and heal, and to keep your glycogen levels up.
Here's what I would do: Go out on a long run this weekend, but do 16, maybe 18, max. Take it easy on this long run, too. Then follow a taper plan the rest of the time between now and your race, reducing mileage but running 2-3 times per week, if possible.
Then, give yourself a break during the race, and tell yourself you're going to walk/run it. Then if you run more than you thought you would be able to, great! And if you take walk breaks, fine!
You can definitely do this race, you'll just have to adjust your expectations, I think.
