I'm almost ashamed that after 12 years of hard work with that thing, I haven't played in 13 years. I lived, slept and breathed clarinet. Went to band camp and everything!
H was impressed that I was able to do Twinkle Twinkle from memory. lol

Fellow clarinet player here! I played 7th through 12th grade including marching band. I still have mine, but I wouldn't remember fingerings to save my life.

Oh man I remember scales on clarinet, saxophone, and oboe too.
I can definitely still read music and know tons of songs by memory. I played 7 instruments and was all set to be a professional musician and got burned out so I minored in performance. Pretty sure it's all burned into my memory for life.
I'm guessing there are finger charts online. Just need some music reading tutorials. I remember the types of notes, but not the actual notes themselves.
I need to find out of there's a community band here because I will totally join it.

Impressive!
I learned bass saxophone for Bye Bye Birdie pit orchestra. I rocked that thing like a badass.
I muddled through on oboe but couldn't figure out the flute to save my life.

Where did they even find a bass saxophone? My college owned one and music that called for it was like finding a unicorn. Are you positive it wasn't baritone saxophone? That one is hands down, my favorite to play ever.

Uhh, year. Baritone. lol! I was thinking bass clarinet/baritone sax.
I looooooved baritone sax. Are you familiar with Bye Bye Birdie? I did the awesome bass-type part at the beginning of "Got A Lot of Livin to Do".

How do I remember this shit?
You remember it because it was a positive experience...which is what I try to give my band kids every day. Your teacher did good :-)
I am not familiar with the show (I have seen the movie) but I will have to keep an ear out for it, the chorus teacher has talked about doing it for spring musical!

Both my elementary/junior high and high school band directors are awesome people. The memories I have of the two of them will live on forever.
You can watch the movie! But go with the old version with Dick Van Dyke and Ann Margaret. Not that bullshit with Jason Alexander and Vanessa Williams. It's a super fun show to put on.
I was a major band geek starting in 5th grade! I loved playing the clarinet. I play the clarinet, trumpet, bass clarinet, & piano. My oldest D is very interested in playing the piano now. She knows 5 songs already. She picked up on it very quickly.

I played clarinet, bass clarinet and tenor sax. About a month ago, FIL brough SIL's mega keyboard over for DD. I googled sheet music and while it was a little daunting, I still managed some wheels on the bus and other nonsense. One day I'm going to buy a tenor sax and get real serious with it.
