I see my family doc in 3 weeks. I'm thinking of asking about switching to Effexor from Cymbalta. I went to a talk this week, and it came up that it can help with hot flashes, and isn't associated with weight gain like some others. Since I'm hotter than Hell most of the time, and gained 40lbs since starting cymbalta , I think it might be worth a try. I've been feeling weepy and getting flash backs again, so I'm wondering if it might help those symptoms. I would love to get off celexa and Ativan too, but just don't see it happening anytime soon. Anyone have experience with that med?

Yes, and I love it. I can't really comment on weight gain since I got pregnant soon after starting it though. I don't really notice many side effects though.

I love my Effexor, although they have me on the generic now. I'm on 112(?) mg/ day, and it makes me super sleepy sometimes, but I take it in the mid-afternoon so I'm not asleep all day and it's somewhat easy to rise in the a.m. ( If I take it in the morning I sleep all day; if I take it at bedtime I can't wake up in the morning.) I don't think I've actually lost any weight, but I notice a definite lessening of my appetite on it. Also, it made me really nauseous when I started it, but that goes away after a few days. One thing that helped was slowly ramping up my dose. I started for a week on 1 37mg capsule, then added a second for another week, and then got up to the full dose, which is 3 capsules.

My mum's doctor put her on Effexor vs another option for help with menopause issues. She has lost weight on it. Only issue she has is if she is very late with a pill or moreso if she misses a dose she gets a horrible migraine. If she stays on schedule she is just fine, she says it makes her a bit numb to things in the moment, but I think that is more her than the drug.
After seeing what my best friend had to go through to get off Effexor, I won't ever take it. The withdrawals from it are insane. I just started back on Zoloft, haven't taken it for years but hoping it works to keep this anxiety at bay for a few months. Hopefully it won't be long term like before, because yeah it made me a zombie.
I'm on Effexor. I also have weaned off of it "just to see" after H got home from his deployment. I ended up back on it. The withdrawals lasted about a week and just made me feel light-headed. I function and feel better while on Effexor. I may switch soon for TTC but I'll most likely go back after having kids because I love it.

ETA I've tried 2 doses. One dose made me lose weight like crazy and one I gained weight (but was also eating like crap- so it was most likely just normal metabolic function)
