That ab gap thing. Have you had it? What fixed it? How did you know? I think I may have it, but I'm too flubbery in the middle now to tell. I'm too freaked out to do any core work because I don't want to make it worse. I meet with my OB for my yearly in like two weeks, so I could ask her then just to check it out in case I'm doing it wrong. I'm probably doing it wrong.
Walking and yoga has helped close mine but it still exists. It went from 3 fingers to less than 1. Sometimes if I'm lazy it expands again to 1 full finger.

I googled exercises for it and did those- but mine wasn't really severe. If it's bad- I would wait to talk to your OB because I know you can really hurt yourself if it's a case of it that isn't advisable to use some exercises for, you may need to modify them to start
I had it. I went to a PT once (totally covered) and she gave me some exercises. I did them every day or every other day for a couple weeks. Went back to see her and the gap had closed! They're really easy exercises, you just have to be sure you're doing the right thing. Can you see a PT?
I think I have about a finger length. I am going to talk to my OB at my visit. I know some exercises are not advisable when you have it. I probably should have asked about that before training for a marathon. I probably ruined my chance for healed muscles
If you think you have it you shouldn't do any ab exercises until you talk to a physical therapist who specializes in DR. There is a lot of ab work that can make it worse. If it's small usually it goes away with PT, though sometimes you do need surgery to correct it.

I didn't realize that I had it until DD was around 12 months, so I think you can do it pretty much any time.
I know, I was being facetious I also didn't realize I had it until I was doing pilates one morning and had my hand on my belly. It freaked me out.
I have it from having twins and a singleton shortly after. I do PT for that and another issue. My urologist also said to start yoga or another core strengthening activity.

I've been wondering whether I had this, too, because my stomach still really sticks out, even though I'm back to my pp weight. It's especially bad after I eat. I just did the test that @aliciar posted and I have a 2 fingerwidth gap.
Wait! I have more questions. Do I need to be referred by a doctor to see a physical therapist that's in my network or do I just give 'em a ringy ding myself?
I don't think I had it but I remember going to mom and baby yoga classes about a month after C was born and the teacher literally would screetch at us about not doing any core exercises or our stomach muscles would knit back together super weird, creating a bulge down the center of our torso.
She seemed more worried about this than any of the students.
