I've asked my SDs several times to tell me what they want for Christmas. I've even texted (using their medium!). DH has asked. All we get us "k"
SD1 is 12 but she's mature. She is into fashion/nails/being popular
SD2 is 11 and kind of like a child version of Zoe Dechanel's character on New Girl. Art and music, kind of off the wall, goofy etc
SD2s birthday is at the end of the month, we are throwing a 1Direction themed party and I only have a handful of things in mind (family is asking what to get her too). Anyone have preteen girls? What are they into? What do they want for Christmas?
I just got a nail polish set for my niece's birthday at Walmart. It was in the x-mas gift sections, and it was only $10. It was in a cute cylinder and had like 20 some polishes, and basic manicure tools. My niece loved it.
iTunes cards will never get old for preteens. It makes them feel 'grown up' not having to ask for mom or dad's card to buy stuff on iTunes.
Apparently cute/colorful/patterned socks are REALLY popular with 12 year olds right now too. Almost every gift my niece received had a pair of funky socks to go along with it.
I would get some "makeup" for the older girl. I am not sure what she is allowed to wear but i was thinking lip gloss kind of stuff and then some nail polish. Also maybe some fun hair accessories. I have been wearing the hair ribbons for practical reasons but my mom (who works retail) assures me they are super in right now. Maybe some cute bracelets too?
For the younger girl would she like some art supplies? Like canvases if she likes painting or jewelry making supplies if that is her thing, etc. I am not even sure how kids get music nowadays because I am approaching 100yo apparently but what about some Bluetooth speakers for her to use with her phone/iPod and a gift card for something like spotify premium.

Ive bookmarked a naked palette for SD1 and a perfume sampler from sephora. I was going to run it by DH for approval.
Bluetooth speakers are a good idea
I just want them to text me back! I even said "if you see something you like, snap a pic and text it to me or put it on instagram". I'm trying so hard to make it easy on people who "don't get the point of email...isn't that what text is for?". But they won't do itttt

At least you are hip enough to tell them to put it on Instagram. I was recently told by a 15yo that "people under 25 don't use Facebook"
I have that bookmarked for SD2! Awesome I'm on the right track.
I have a few things bookmarked for each kid. We've gotten SD2 lots of art/music supplies. They have all the gadgets in the world...they have everything we've spoiled them too much but I will be sure to get the hair chalk

I opened an instagram account LITERALLY 5 days ago to show them the video of DS walking because they refused to sign in on FB lol
