Question for those that have/had a kindle fire

I bought an ipad a couple of years ago. I thought it would be much closer to a laptop where I could edit my photos. Turns out it is nothing like a laptop so I ended up buying a laptop. Now it is used mostly by my 2.5 year old. He has a few toddler games downloaded on there, but nothing much. Lately it is hardly being used. I am considering selling it and maybe replacing it with a kindle fire? The only thing I don't like about the fire is it seems to have limited apps. Would it have apps for my kids to play with? Does a kindle fire replace an ipad if it is just used for web browsing and kids games?

I love my kindle fire and I think it has a wide array of apps. However, the web browser it uses sucks.

My DH has a kindle fire and I just plain don't like it. I think it's great for reading but I'm not impressed with much else.

I think it's slightly shitty that my iphone4 connected to our internet goes faster than my kindlefire connected to our internet. I feel like the kindle should be pulling ahead in this comparison. 

The silk browser just flat out blows. It's SO slow.
