I love that "Ugly Christmas Sweaters" have become a thing.

I remember when they just existed, and people wore them earnestly, and no one talked about it.

Now Amazon actually has a category that is called, outright, "Ugly Christmas Sweaters."

I don't own one. I have never worn one. But for some reason I just find this whole trend hysterical.

I think what cracks me up is the fact that everyone always knew they were ugly, except for the people wearing them. Now it's publicly acknowledged.

I don't know -- the ironic wearing of ugly sweaters has been a trend since what, 2007? That's when all of a sudden it seemed like everyone was throwing ugly sweater parties or posting pictures of them on Facebook. I think it is kind of super overdone at this point.

Yes. This was a thing when I was in college, and I graduated in 06!


I was a HS teacher and they  did "ugly sweater day". I always wondered if any of the staff had a "holy shit" moment when they realized they owned half the ugly sweaters the kids wore. For the record, I was not among that group of staff, lol.

Oh, I didn't mean to sound like I thought it was new this year. I know it's been a thing for a while now. I was just thinking about it because I was browsing on Amazon and saw the link.

My MIL wears them seriously. Well, I think she has ugly sweaters for every occasion, usually with matching earrings....

There's also an "ugly sweater kit" with little patches you can stick on any old sweater.

Sucks the fun right out of it!

My mom won an ugly sweater contest. She was aware of the contest, but she just pulled a sweater that she had owned for years and wore earnestly;)
