She was in such distress she couldn't even cry and could barely breathe. I spent the first half of the drive contemplating calling 911 instead. By the time we actually saw a doctor, she was fine. Regular toddler who has a cold, bad cough and raspy voice. I put her in my bed and I'm taking a moment before sleep. It's been a crazy day. Just 10 hours ago I was on the phone with L&D weighing whether I should go in to get checked.
I'm so glad she's better. DH is out of town for work this weekend so I didn't have a sounding board on this one. I was alone and had an "Oh fuck. I need to get to the hospital before she stops breathing completely" moment.
Man... croup is so so scary. We went to the ER twice with David when he had croup at 2 then again at 4. It was terrifying both times. I'm sorry I hope your little one is better soon.
Thanks for asking. She slept through the night without another bad episode and today she is just coughing with a running nose. We are both a little tired but I feel much better about everything. I have my discharge instructions with treatment options and "when to call 911" tips. I feel much better about facing tonight.
My little girl had croup about 2 weeks ago. It's so sad to see them like that. She never got to where she "couldn't" breath, it was just a little more labored and the rattle sound was awful. I took her in to the office on a Saturday and they put her on a steroid which made her a crazy lunatic, but it got her feeling better. Has anyone advised you that if she gets a bad attack you can open the freezer and let her breath the cold air and lots of times that will stop the coughing? I haven't had to try it but it's on my list of tricks passed down from my sister.
Happy to hear she's feeling a little better and you're getting some rest. I'm about to pop also so I feel you there too.
