at all the pictures in my Facebook feed of kids with dead animals they shot. It's youth hunting weekend here, so there's all kinds of posts with kids grinning next to dead things. I'm from family of hunters, DH hunts, so it's not like it's something new to me, but ugh.
I don't know, maybe it's the juxtaposition of cute, innocent children killing animals and then being broadcast in pictures with comments from people congratulating them. It just makes me feel all icky inside. I know, I know, it's a "sport", but I just can't get behind it.
Sigh. I hope that's not my kid one day. He's so itty bitty and cute; he shouldn't be responsible for making things bloody. Or maybe I'm just an oversensitive asshole.
My family hunts, my husband hunts, our friends hunt.
I still don't see the need to take a photo with a dead animal. My husband at least waits until everything is over and then just takes a photo of the antlers, without the deer.

I am totally the same way. I have no issues with hunting, but kids showing off dead deer etc. really bothers me. I had to hide people so I wouldn't see them. I am a wuss!

Hunting pictures weird me out, too. I'm definitely not against hunting and it doesn't bother me when people take their kids hunting- the pictures just seem strange.

Ditto this. I grew up in a hunting family and never understood the pictures. Everyone knows where meat comes from.
It's not really a matter of people showing where meat comes from, it's a pride thing. A pride thing that I don't understand/feel the need to document because I don't hunt or really care. A deer is a deer is a deer, as long as it is a legal deer.
Typically when hunting buck, you aim for the biggest rack. For turkeys, the longest beard. So everyone that takes photos usually falls into the categories of; first time hunting and got their first deer/bear/turkey/pheasant or they are showing off.
Either which way, hunting season annoys me because I don't need to see bloody dead animals.
I'm ok with it. It's a way of life here and everyone eats what they kill. It's a tradition and a sense of pride to be able to pass that on to your children. What bothers me is when they let the kids shoot the first deer they see. A lot of the pictures are of immature bucks or tiny does. It makes me super sad to see that.
