I used to work in law schools and have been to many for work.
My basic observation is that the students at Harvard/Yale/NYU and other top tier law schools are much more attractive than those at schools ranked 25-175. Once you get into the bottom tier/unranked law school attractiveness goes back up.

Do you think that it has something to do with upbringing? Almost all of DH's parters with grown children have attractive ones and it's in large part, I think, because they can afford a dermatologist, a good hair dresser, they have leisure time to work out, they keep up with the latest clothes... They also go to good private schools, which helps them get in to good colleges and good graduate schools.
On the other hand, my BFF from HS was a total dork, scrawny ginger kid. He was from a working class family. My girlfriends never knew why I hung out with him because he was such a nerd. His freshman year at Yale he joined the crew team and came home that summer like an orange haired Adonis. So maybe the air at the Ivy Leagues just makes people better looking?

i think affluence has something to do it. it seems in my 'hood at least the middle schoolers aren't nearly as awkward looking as the kids in my middle school yearbook.
Also there have been studies that teachers favor good looking kids and tend to give them better grades on subjective tests than ugly kids.
I thought it was just a commonly understood thing that attractiveness and at least moderate intelligence were genetically linked. They're both historically conducive to breeding. As is attractiveness and a complete lack of intelligence. So it makes sense that the attractiveness to law school difficulty chart would be U shaped.
to add to my collection of anecdotes, i'm always amazed at how unattractive tennesseans are once you get off the highway and into some of the rural towns.

Every time I go home to bucolic Western MA, I walk around dazed by how ugly the people are.
Anecdotally, though, my town is blue collar on a good day. Other days, no collar at all. The next town over is affluent and a college town (Williams College) and the people there are much more attractive. Back to the affluence theory...

Agawam makes Westfield look hot.... They are still sporting the poof and mullet in Agawam
There are some scary looking mofos in TN. I think it's partially related to what HY mentioned - money/affluence - b/c they may have good bone structure, but you'd never know it b/c you're too distracted by jacked up teeth, leather-y skin and fried hair.
