Why is cayenne pepper so difficult to find?

I made chili last week, without cayenne pepper, because the store I went to didn't have any. Weird. The chili was fine, but missing something, obviously cayenne pepper.

i decide that I want to make chili for my lunches this weekend, so I go to a different store for the pepper. They don't have it either!

Is cayenne pepper uncommon or something? I don't cook a whole lot, but it seems odd that two stores don't have it.

I have like 8 bottles. It's stupid easy to find but I'm also in Texas.

That's weird, I've never had trouble finding it. I just realized today how much I use it. If we're in the middle of a shortage I'll have to start deciding what dishes are cayenne worthy.

Email McCormick, they'll tell you which of their retailers carry it.

I haven't had difficulty finding it. Maybe try the ethnic foods aisle?

I live in the middle of no where and all our grocery stores carry it. They carry it in the small McCormick containers though.

Don't have any problems finding it here. Try Amazon ? That's where I get the good chili powder.

I just went to Price Chopper and checked the spice aisle. H didn't see it either, and he cooks way more than I do. If I don't find it next week, I'll check the spice vendor at the farmers market. They have everything.

I had a weird spate of not being able to find it last year but it is back now.

I think we've picked one up at every grocery store/dollar store in our area, and this area isn't known for spicy food (far from it).

You know what I can never find though? Garlic powder. There is always garlic salt, or garlic flakes, but no regular garlic powder.

See, we have three containers of garlic powder in the kitchen.

Try a bigger grocery store, like Loblaws.

Is that what it is called, in addition to cayenne pepper? I feel so dumb, but I'm just branching out in my cooking skills, so I know next to nothing here.

Just looked at the McCormick's website. They call it ground red (cayenne) pepper.
