I made chili last week, without cayenne pepper, because the store I went to didn't have any. Weird. The chili was fine, but missing something, obviously cayenne pepper.
i decide that I want to make chili for my lunches this weekend, so I go to a different store for the pepper. They don't have it either!
Is cayenne pepper uncommon or something? I don't cook a whole lot, but it seems odd that two stores don't have it.
That's weird, I've never had trouble finding it. I just realized today how much I use it. If we're in the middle of a shortage I'll have to start deciding what dishes are cayenne worthy.
I just went to Price Chopper and checked the spice aisle. H didn't see it either, and he cooks way more than I do. If I don't find it next week, I'll check the spice vendor at the farmers market. They have everything.
I've never had any problem finding it. It is usually in the small container. I feel like it might be labeled as something else with cayenne in parenthesis, but I'm too lazy to go look now haha.
You know what I can never find though? Garlic powder. There is always garlic salt, or garlic flakes, but no regular garlic powder.

Is that what it is called, in addition to cayenne pepper? I feel so dumb, but I'm just branching out in my cooking skills, so I know next to nothing here.
