I know a few people have mentioned working in libraries. What is your profession? Book related at all? Or do you just use books to escape from your job?
This is my final year of college. I am an English major, have Spanish and TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) minors, and am in the teaching track. "Professionally" I am a supervisor in a campus cafeteria and work in retail during the summer.
I'm a medical technologist (I'm in a hospital lab doing all the testing on samples!) so not related to books/reading really at all. But I usually work three 12hr shifts si I have lots of free time to read!
I'm an academic librarian. I majored in English and minored in history, but I realized at the end of my junior year that pretty soon I was going to have an electric bill and would need a way to pay it. So I went to grad school for my MLS.
My job is really not very "book related," believe it or not. I do use books for my job, but as research tools, not as books to sit and read through. I spend more time using and teaching students to use our online research databases than anything else. Our print collection is still relevant but less and less so as time goes by.

I'm a writer for a nonprofit. I don't get to work with books, though.
I volunteer for a book review website and have reviewed a few books in the past year. I edit reviews for the site, too. My husband is also a volunteer, so we end up with a bunch of advance review copies. It's a lot of fun but a lot of work, and it's taught me a ton about the publishing world. I wish it could be my day job.

What is your profession? -- in the US, I worked as a legal secretary. Here in Australia, I am reluctantly unemployed.
Book related at all? -- My job was only book related in that sometimes I got to look up caselaw in law books, but that was hardly for fun, and towards the end of my time, most people were looking up caselaw online and most law libraries were going away. My office turned the library into the new accounting suite.
Or do you just use books to escape from your job? -- I used books to escape. I would always have a book with me at lunch, and I perfected the art of sitting in loud office kitchens, cafeterias, and food courts and disappearing into the world of my book. I got so good at it that there were several times I looked up to see what time it was and was surprised that the room I was in did not match the description in the book. ;D
I handle payroll and benefits at a private school. My job isn't nearly as book related as I would like it to be but it does regularly involve reading of various articles. I do use books to escape; I always have.

I work in chronic disease prevention and management for a state health department. It's not book-related, though I have to read and occasionally write journal articles. And, yes, books are my escape from the world (job, kids, husband!)
I am an X-ray technician but am currently employed at a bank as a personal banker and teller...woohoo. Not book related at all.
I read more for entertainment than an escape. I have always had a very active imagination and can become very absorbed in a book. I also write quite a bit but only for myself right now.

I work for the federal government where I investigate claims of employment discrimination. I do a lot of non-book reading in my job and much of it is interesting. The cases are usually about the claimant's workplace drama and a lot of it is soap opera material.
Books are a big escape for me. I like to get lost in the characters' world
I'm a computer programmer in the oil/gas industry. The only book link to my job is that I occasionally read programming books, and I know a few prominent tech authors from conferences I've attended.
I used to do freelance book reviews for a major newspaper, and in high school I was "book manager" at a small multimedia retail store. These days I just read for fun. Not really as an escape, but just normal entertainment (more so now that I don't have a TV).
I wish it was book related. I was dumb and got my degree in Marketing... and then never used it.
I currently provide support for an application that performs stock plan administration (taxation, financial reporting, IRS regulations, etc). Essentially, my life revolves around the stock market.

I work in academic affairs and (as of last week) teach at liberal arts college. I have two degrees in journalism, so my work-related reading was more periodicals than books. These days, it's textbooks and academic journals. I use my fluff reading time to ground me in the real world, ironically enough!
I work in HR so not book related at all. However I've been an avid reader since middle school. I didn't read as much in college but picked it right back up after I graduated. Reading is an escape for me, I love being submerged into a really good story.
