We are looking to buy a new car for DH when we move (we currently have only 1 car, and walk to the train, but when we move, we will have to drive). He would only be driving to the train 30 min per day total. We would like something that is pretty reliable (think Honda/Toyota) and fairly gas-efficient, used. What cars should we look at?
I loved my Toyota Corolla. Extremely fuel efficient, great resale value, and reliable--drove it for 6 years and 60K miles without a single problem until I totaled it a few months ago.
I would also look at a Honda Civic/Accord. My last Civic in 2000 got 33mpg. It was a great car and the only reason I gave it up was because I was pregnant with twins (needed something big enough to transport all their crap). I upgraded to a Honda Pilot.
My DH is currently driving a 1997 Honda CRV and he loves it. Even though it is 15 years old he plans on driving for many more years to come because it only has 110k miles on it.
You should be able to pick up a good Civic for about $5k-$7K. You really will get your money's worth out of it.
