2 different questions- anesthesia and ear discharge in dogs

Pup had surgery on Monday (neuter/microchip) and we noticed that his eyes looked a little red Monday night and yesterday.  Is this a common side effect from anesthesia? I found one website that says this could last for 48 hours post surgery, but it was no way a reliable site.

This morning H informed me that pup also had some black discharge that he wiped out of the one ear.  H said that both ears looked noticeably different when he looked at them, and that pup was tilting his head a lot after we took him out of his crate.  Could this be an ear infection or could it just be because he slept in the cone?


Pup is 6 month old black lab, who is definitely missing his long walks and being active.


Obviously we will be calling to check with the vet this morning once they opened, but I was curious enough to ask here as H will be the one calling later and we won't have time to touch base until later this evening.
