I guess I can postpone looking for childcare for now.
And really it might have been a wash financially considering I'd have to pay for transportation and childcare twice a week (which in NYC could be astronomical).
I may look into in home tutoring in my area...or something...
Lurker Here! Not sure if it's something you would be interested in, but I've been doing online tutoring for Tutor.com for a couple of years now. I don't make as much doing that as one on one, but it's still nice. More like a homework helpline, but with a chat room, option for voice being added now, a "white board" you and the student can write on and the ability to open up website to both view. The company is based in NYC I believe.. I'm not sure which subjects you tutor or which they are looking for tutors for right now, but there are a ton of different subjects to choose from and you just test into whichever ones you want to tutor. PM me if you have any questions or check out their website.

Oh, I will look into this! Do you have to have a Master's degree?
Not unless they have changed their rules. When I started, you didn't even have to have a bachelors, they were allowing college students to tutor for h.s. and elementary. I have a bachelors and the subjects I am tutoring now are lower level math, science and social studies, and biology. There are a ton of subjects though. The more you are approved in the better. You can schedule a set number of hours per week ahead of time, then add more as it gets closer if others haven't taken the spots, and you can "float" which is what I do. I sign on whenever and if there are students needing help in my subjects, they will get sent my way if all the scheduled tutors are busy. I'm on the West coast, so the times I am on is typically late evening East coast, but I'd say about 90% of the time, I have a student within 5 minutes, especially in social studies.

Oh wow, this sounds very doable. Thank you for the lead!
