So I'm currently looking for a new job. It's made me realise that due to visas and timings and so forth, I've never actually been looking for a new job whilst I was still in a job. And I'm finding it difficult.
How the heck do I schedule interviews without work becoming suspicious? I generally never take time off ill (although I pulled a sickie last week for an interview) or for docs appts or anything really. I feel both guilty and like they'll know!
And it seems like most companies won't meet after hours so that's not an option. Anyone have any advice?
I would see if you could schedule them for first thing in the morning or last thing in the day and then just ask if you can come in late or leave early, if they ask say you have an appointment. Good luck! Where did you end up getting your new flat?
Frclb - new flat is just across from Clapham Junction station... it's amazing really, 2 bed/2 bath, awesome kitchen and big roof terrace. And it's fairly affordable! But annoying unfurnished so trying to sort that out now...
cupcakes - what's this "right" to interview? Although I obviously don't want my current job to find out!!
Create a dental annoyance. I have a permanent wire behind my teeth that can miraculously need regluing from time to time. In meetings, appear uncomfortable a few days ahead of time and put your finger in your mouth. Go to the bathroom, come back and say you think you've lost a filling. Feign irritation to hot drinks.
Trust me, no one will ask to look inside your mouth.
Out to lunch with a friend or family member, dentist, feminin issues and lab work were my go to excuses for interviews whenever I've been looking for a different job. I'll make sure to start early or stay late to make sure people know I'm making up for lost time. Especially the meeting up with friends or family is effective as they all know so much of my family lives abroad, so no one questions it or follows up on it - especially when I do make up for lost time or take up a vacation day.
