I just realized, because I've been watching Chris Eccleston Doctor Who episodes, that I say "Fantastic!" all the time, and I'm pretty sure he might be the reason why. I'm amused by this because I never realized the connection before.
I'm also fond of a Mr. Burns-style "Excellent," but at least that one I'm aware that I'm quoting, lol.
Any words or phrases that have crept into your everyday use, with or without your knowledge?
Whenever H or I says "Wow" the other one usually responds with "Fantastic, baby" which we picked up from a Youtube channel we follow. (It's a song reference).
The cheer "Fighting" in place of "Good luck" sometimes.
Most of my unusual turns of phrase are just things from various languages that I've studied. I suppose it sounds kind of Firefly-eque but there are a few things that I habitually say in Chinese, because XH and I would use them all the time when talking to each other: Keyi - can; it's possible Mei you - I don't have it. Wo bu zhidao - I don't know. Wei shenme? - Why?
Similarly, I have a habit of saying "Allons-y." I use it so commonly that I never even noticed that 11 used it all the time! It just sounded normal to me!
"Frak" "Shiny, cap'n!" "Coolcoolcool" "You keep using this word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
And whenever anyone says 37 for any reason, I instinctively want to respond "In a row?!" (not a direct quote)
LOL, so this is kind of a running joke in my family. The last four digits of my parents' phone number (the number I grew up with) are 3737. So one time (many many many years ago...) my brother called up one of his best friends and asked, "What would you say if I said my phone number had two 37s in it?" And the friend dutifully responded, "In a row?"
I grew up in a house where movie quotes are an art form.
I say Oh my, Jelly, pew pew less QQ, I also call my son an annoying miniature beast of burden when he wants to carry things for me. Also Yodaism happen a lot.
