Anyone been through Ethiopia or Chad?

I'm leaving next week for Chad going through Ethiopia (will only be in the airport).

Anyone been either of these places? What's the chance I'm going to see any signs in English/find someone who speaks English? How big is the airport in Addis? I'm just a bit worried about finding my connecting flight and don't think my English or weak German will get me too far.

Any tips?

We flew through Addis both ways last August. No problems at all and it was easy to navigate speaking only English (well, we also speak Spanish, German, & Indonesian, but none of those were helpful).

And Chad... I know... but that's where my brother lives so that's where I'm headed. Someone will meet me in Chad and I'm sure getting through immigration will be an enormous headache, but my biggest worry was always making my connecting flight in Addis.
