Saw this on my threads today,
"Conservatives, listen... I know this healthcare thing has you in a tiff. The problem is people have stopped caring for each other. The ...thought that people who are poor, mentally ill, and or homeless have a character defect or could correct their situation with "better decisions" is the problem. This thought has separated you from your humanity. The government has to force us to care because instead of helping our neighbor, we turn our heads automatically. You should want to help... But now you have to. Deal"
I think it's relevant because ACA will expand coverage, encouraging people to seek care before they are gravely ill, and also bans health insurance companies from dropping or not-approving people due to pre-existing conditions. In CA, a girl was dropped from her insurance after they "paid out too much" for her leukemia care. You can't argue people haven't died because of shady insurance company tactics. And that one argument against ACA is, "but... I might have to pay more money!" Which, I think, is questionable.
But I thought only poor people used the government for anything?
Which gets to the second part:
THE ACA DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO "USE" THE GOVERNMENT. IT REQUIRES YOU TO USE BCBS.
THANK YOU!
Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that the ACA benefits NO ONE more than private insurance companies. Which is reason number 1 that I think it's a bad idea.

as for the OP - the idea that those against this or who are conservative "don't care about others" is just plain silly. And agree with what others have said.
I posted this on fb, but my fave quote from today "No matter what else is in it, we can’t save healthcare reform until that infection is cured". It is definitely for for-profit hc.
