So I've been wanting to learn to quilt. As a starter project I thought I could make some pillows for our window seat in our kitchen. This morning I carefully cut the pieces using my nifty new rotary cutter (love that thing) and then I layed out my pattern and then sewed my pieces together. Overall it looks very good and I took the time to iron open every seam. However, I began to stuff the first pillow and I noticed that about 3 of the seams are separating. WTF! I literally worked on this pillow all day long! Someone please tell me what I did wrong!
The thread is not breaking, the stitches are unraveling. Some of them are in the middle (the ones at the end I understand). And the fabric is not torn.
Huh. It sounds like maybe there's some disconnect between the bobbin thread and top thread. Double check that your bobbin is loaded correctly, and if that doesn't fix it I'd take the machine in to be serviced.
How new is your needle? Old needles can skip stitches.
What was your seam allowance? Seam allowance for quilts is usually 1/4 inch, but for things you'll tug on like pillows, usually it's more than 1/4 inch.
I think I did 1/2 in seam allowance because I really wanted to make sure it didn't come apart. Lol. As for stitch length, that makes sense, but it's only a couple of squares which is why it is confusing me! Um, I really don't know how old me needle is. I really probably should take it in to be serviced. :-\ I've been avoiding it...
