I like cats generally. I've had them most of my life. I don't miss a litter box though.
The Husband also loves cats but hates cleaning up after them so he is hesitant to get one again.
I'm trying to decide if it is something I want bad enough to change his mind.. or if I don't want it very badly and I should pretend that his opinion matters and that's why we aren't getting cats.

I think you have enough to deal with already having a couple of kids and a couple of dogs, but that's just my opinion.
I'm under the impression that a lot of the time cats choose YOU as an owner, not the other way around, so I'd just wait for one to show up at your doorstep and doesn't go away when you start feeding it. ;-)

That's really the only reason I think I should get them now. I don't have the option of being lazy, so I might as well add another thing to the list.
Plus - My last cat lived 23 years. If they are going to be around for decades I'd like to get the ball rolling so it can be dead by the time I have an empty nest and truly do little to nothing as far as cleaning up after others.
I definitely think fostering is the happy medium. You can foster all ages, not just kittens. If you foster and find that it's not too much and want to get one, then you're prepared and know what to expect.
Also, if you're worried about having the cat forever, you can adopt "senior" cats
I am not a cat person but I agree that fostering is the way to go until you know you want another cat.
I want one, I have just been trying to talk myself into waiting until it was a slightly better time. I think I'll finish up their room and see if we can find some compatible furr butts.

Cat. There are all kinds of self cleaning litter boxes or certain kinds of litter that can sustain 1 cat for like a week at a time. We have 2 kids, a dog and 2 cats. The cats are definitely the lowest maintenance of the bunch!

I guess I should say cats, plural. We will get two of them when we find a good match for our home.
We got their room mostly emptied today. I have to get my shoes out of there tomorrow and then work on assembling their furniture and arranging things. Then we can start the official search.
I think getting 2 is a great idea. When we go out of town I always feel bad leaving our cat home alone. Granted my parents pop in twice a day to check on her, but still....
