I'm home with the girls again today and I am trying to pull it together. My fucking work phone just rang and I don't even want to look at it. I am SO SICK of my clients. I have so many needy ones right now and it is wearing me down. :N:
I'm sorry babs. I hate days like those. You are in social work, right?
Yes. It has really been getting to me lately. I have had one super needy client after another and this time of year is such a challenge because my kids aren't in school or camp yet and I have to take a lot of time off. I'm trying to cram a week of work into 2 work days each week and it is just not happening because my clients can't seem to day ANYTHING for themselves these days.
The phone call was from a client whose oven is not working. We placed several calls to the landlord but he has not sent anyone out yet. She was complaining yesterday that she can't cook her food and she doesn't have any more food stamps. I agreed to drop off some Stop and Shop cards today even though I AM OFF and then she calls this morning stating that she needs me to take her to Stop and Shop because she can't get a ride. The store is about 1.5 miles away. WALK!! :@ :drink:

OK, hold the phone, she can call YOU, but she can't call the landlord herself?? And maybe this is a dumb question, but she doesn't have a microwave?? you can cook pretty much ANYTHING in a microwave... I mean, maybe not the healthiest of things, but you can cook a freaking hot dog, or pizza rolls, or even eggs.... I am annoyed on your behalf that you have to drive over there, and she won't even try to get a ride, or walk to the damn store. Maybe you should discuss with her that it's not your job to be providing bus fare for someone with 2 working legs that can walk their ass to the store.
without going into too much detail, it is our responsibility to contact the landlord due to the type of housing she is in. She doesn't have a microwave. I'm just annoyed that she can't get up and walk. There is nothing wrong with her. I would do it if I had kids to feed. She doesn't even need to bring them with her because one of them is almost done with high school. It would probably take about 1-1.5 hours to complete the shopping trip on foot. NBD it's not raining nor is it sweltering.
BAB, I'm not a SW but I have done similar work and I understand the frustration. at times it is so hard to remain calm and supportive and professional when you just want to fucking scream. Hugs!
Are you always on call, even when not "at work," or do you just keep responding because you're such a good person?
