Long story short- I am planning to take Organic 2, which I have never taken before (I have taken Biochem). I am also planning to do this without retaking Organic 1 (I just did the lab last semester)
I realize that this might be insane. I got a copy of the syllabus. The last half of the class is biochem, which I'm not worried about. I'll take monosaccharides for 1000, Alex.
The first half of the class I'm not sure if I know enough about. Knowing what you know about organic chemistry and me, can I pull off orbital theory, cyclic pi systems, stereochemistry and the fundamentals of organic reaction mechanisms?
Dude, the fiance and I almost did not survive Organic Chem. Retake the Organic 1 and then re-do it. Organic 2 is an unholy bitch. I FINALLY JUST GOT THE REACTION SIGNS TAKEN OFF OF THE WALLS OF OUR OFFICE.

uhh ya I am in the same boat. I had a question on test one that was like "draw the molecular orbitals for these compounds?" cue me drawing a bunch of circles around shit. It was awesome.
But in all seriousness I think if you could review then I don't think you would have an issue. There is always Khan academy and free lectures from MIT(which helped me a tremendous amount in physics) if you really got into a jam plus the vast knowledge of those that have chem degrees around here.
I love Khan Academy so much. That's how I prepped for the MCAT, so I know that I can learn really well from his tutorials. Aw, I miss his voice! So basically, I need to know if retaking all of organic I would even help me with shit like orbitals, aromaticity and resonance
Delurking. I ended up taking O Chem 2 twice, since I needed better grades to get into professional school. The first time was the semester after O Chem 1 and my 19 year old self made some poor choices with regards to studying and going to class. I barely pulled off a D and obviously learned next to nothing.
I retook the class more than a year later. At least at my school, the material covered was only tangentially related to anything I had learned in O Chem 1. I looked up old information less than five times during the entire course.
Long story short: I don't think you need to re-take O Chem 1. If you do end up struggling, there is no shame in asking other students in the class for help, whipping out your old notes, or getting a tutor.

I would NOT take Ochem 1 again if I were you. You are at a different place in the way you learn now, the basic stuff in ochem 1 that you might need to brush up on for those 12 lectures could be done in office hours, going back to review the text book, or PM me if you're desperate and if I don't know, I'll ask H who is the most kick-ass organic chemist I know, and not a bad teacher to boot.
But honestly, I don't think you'll have that hard of time with the orbital theory. When you approach it from an angle of "Why does this happen? How does it work that way?" and start picturing the HOMO and LUMO and pi systems for the molecules, all of a sudden, MO theory makes every other single piece of ochem make sense. It's awesome and beautiful.

Well I don't know you, but I can say that I got a D in Orgo 1 and then took Orgo 2 w/o retaking 1 first also. I ended up with a B. So you can definitely take 2 before passing 1. I hated both of those classes with a passion. Messed with my GPA.
Orbital theory is seriously the easiest part. It will click with you I'm sure of it.
I had an easier time in Org 2 than Org1. In large part due to the professor and missing some time in the first semester due to flu. But If you think the material is that familiar to you, I wouldn't retake. Because it sucks. So bad.
Anyone who says they enjoy organic chemistry is lying.
I enjoy organic chemistry! For real. It basically comes down to that each class I take is a risk to my GPA. If I don't need to risk taking organic I (which I don't have to retake) then I don't want to. But I do want to be able to succeed in organic II.

I saw that, but I didn't get the reference. I blame the booze I drank last night and the zillion personal comments I have to write to each and every student I have (kill me now).
I really enjoyed OChem, would I take it again? Oh HELL no. That is the kind of torture that is reserved for rapists and pedophiles. But really, take O2 (hehe) and reference the internets and Khan Academy and you'll be fine. You are a smart girl so I'm sure you will be fine.
