I just finished a book that came highly recomended and, it sucked, the first half was ok, but then it seemed like they ran out of time, and hurriedly finished it leaving it short and random. Now my friend wants to know what I think of her Favorite book at the moment. Do you finish your bad book, or toss when you realize how bad it is? I read 3 or 4 books at a time, and it just takes me longer to read the bad ones. I always worry that its going to have a awesome twist at the end and turn into one of my new favorites, but I should know by now, bad in the first 3/4 of the book means bad ending too. I also get really mad if I liked the other books in a series and find a crappy one. One bad apple can ruin the whole grouping for me. The name of the book is Horses of Heaven, and I do not suggest anyone picking it up to read.

I used to believe in finish every book, but there's not enough time for that! It usually takes me about a chapter or two into a book for me to know if I'm going to finish it or not. I could not get into Salem's Lot, so I didn't finish it.
It depends. If it starts out terrible and has no chance of getting better, I'll drop it right away. If I'm over halfway before I decide I don't like it, I'm a lot less likely to give up on it. Instead I'll force myself to finish it and stew about how terrible it was for days.
I've never not finished a book. I have a couple sitting on my kindle that I'm like 80% in and haven't finished yet, but I wont give up on them.
I want to give up on Inheritance so bad (the last Eragon book) but I just can't bring myself to. I haven't touched it in over a year, but I swear I will finish it off if its the last book I read. I've spent too many years one that series to not finish it.
OMG Let me guess you're stuck around page 320ish in Inheritance?? I totally put that book on hold for like a year too and finally finished it this summer...it's pretty much on par with the third one it that's any help.
As for the OP I am someone who always finishes a book too but I will put some on hold for long periods of time but I'm really good at remembering details to they are easy to pick back up. Recently I gave into the hype and read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and that was just a horrible disappointment. I justify finishing every book because sometimes a book I'm not liking can have an amazing ending or the series gets much better and it's worth it to keep going. The second HP book was like this for me. I hated the second one when I first read it and if the third hadn't just came out at the time I probably never would have picked up another HP book after that. Now I love the second book after reading about the horcruxes in the sixth haha.
I download a bunch of free books on my Kindle, but I don't finish several of them. The writing in some is absolutely atrocious. However, I've also come across some entertaining ones that bring me back to the free section again (plus, I was lucky enough once to catch Outlander for free which got me hooked on the whole series).
I can usually tell if it is just too bad to read in the first couple chapters. But if I make it at least halfway into a book I will always finish it because I'm 'invested' in it by then.

Ok, I will admit, I downloaded some free kindle self published books that even I could not finish, like deleted off my kindle and wish i could wash my mind to get them out. I don't know why people think they got the next best seller and can't put together a normal book. I think December is the worst with all the nanowri month finished and suddenly they have a book to publish. I also get suckered into them.
