I had a doctors appointment today and of course they weighed me. I was not happy at all with the number. I hadn't weighed myself since last year's doctor appointment. I never weigh myself because I am never happy with the number even if it is a good number. Well today I am TWELVE more pounds than last year. It makes no sens since I am exercising more and eating better. I know that I have toned up since last year but I find it hard to believe that the twelve pounds are all muscle. Basically I feel like I have been working out for nothing and just want to eat a giant bag of Doritios and call it a day.

How did you feel before you knew your weight?
If you've felt a bit heavy or sluggish then I understand being upset and maybe changing up your routine, but with your exercising and healthy eating if you've been feeling good then it seriously makes no sense to worry about a number above how you feel (and look!).

I had been feeling pretty good about how strong my legs/but were looking and thought I was going to be okay with whatever number the scale had but I am definitely not happy about it. I wished I had looked away when they weighed me and then I wouldn't know. I know it is vain but I would like to be a certain number on the scale or around it and not twelve more pounds. I can always eat less but then I get cranky and don't have as much energy to workout.

The bolded? That's what matters. Of course you could be lighter, but it sounds like for you that would mean looking and feeling worse. I mean, I'd love to have a bigger butt and arms and lift more but also have slimmer thighs and weigh a pound and be a size 0, but here in the real world I kind of have to pick between those two scenarios.
Weight isn't the only or necessarily the most important way to measure your body. Shake it off
Agreed, the number on the scale is only a very small part of the picture.
If you want better data, consider doing measurements around your waist and hips, maybe once a month, to keep track of that. It's a slightly more objective measure than "how do my clothes fit?"
If the numbers aren't trending in a direction you are comfortable with, then you need to look harder at why (and just eating less probably isn't the answer). If they're steady or trending in a healthy direction, well, who cares what the scale says?

I completely agree with the other posters. I am short and petite so a minor variance in pounds show. I have also yo yoed a lot with my weight. I did WWers and worked so hard to lose 20 pounds. When I started training for my marathon I panicked because I gained five pounds. Now I look at pictures of myself and am wearing clothes I wore in high school even though I am 15 pounds heavier than I was in high school. I don't have to monitor my eating as much and I feel great. So I have made peace with my new weight.
