Taking care of business

I think you may have all seen the mod and ground rules discussion that is going on? It's stuck up there somewhere.

I would like to bring the discussion home just to make sure everyone is satisfied with the way our board works from day to day, so two questions:

First of all, we have the opportunity to elect our mods. ESD and Smock were chosen because they volunteered, but if anyone is not happy with this arrangement, she/he should speak up.

Second, what do we want our mods to moderate?


I have a feeling we are all on the same page, but I thought it would be a good idea to check in and make sure.

First: Eh, whatever. Though I do think ESD is far too prone to using her power for good and not letting it go to her head. BLECH.

Second: Pretty much nothing. If someone goes nuts and posts somebody else's address, that, but honestly that's about it imo.

As for me, I am prefectly happy with our mods. I think that both have been around long enough that a) we know that they will continue to be around and b) they know the overall tone and sub-culture of this board, as well as all of the regs from TIP and even many of the other boards. ESD was always very responsive on TN and I can think of no time that she has performed any kind of questionable editing.

2. Personal info and spam definitely. I am trying to think of other things that could come up. I feel like as far as insults go, we are able to take care of ourselves. We can always page them if necessary.

I think that mods should be expected to keep an eye on their PMs, since there is notification of them now.

Yes, what broc said. I am fine with ESD and Smock, I think ESD's goodness balances out Smock's evil. And I don't want them to moderate anything unless it's illegal or a matter of privacy/safety and absolutely no DDing shit unless it's one of those.

Even spam I honestly don't really care about. I don't think any of us are going to go vote for whoever random's kid in a FB contest or go to the forum that random was talking about on Old TIP. The 'YOUR D1Ck IS B!GGER!11'-type spam is warded off pretty well by the captcha challenge required for guests (also, engrish is hilarious). I guess if the link refers to a site that gives a virus, that would be reason, but overall I personally would prefer it if our mods err on the side of sitting on their dainty asses.

Also, I kind of want to stay 'TIP', because I get the feeling that we and SO are going to be a main draw for new blood.

I agree there is some untapped potential for hilarity in flaming spammers. Not that they'll ever learn a lesson, but at least we can have a little fun in the process.

I agree that only personal info, virus-bearing shenanigans, and anything blatantly illegal (a la kiddie pr0n) should be modded.
