My folks put their kitty to sleep this morning. They're so devastated.
They had her for about 3 years. She was a stray and probably about 6-7 years old. Out of nowhere her back legs were paralyzed on Monday. No trauma or anything. She was incontinent, degrading quickly, dilating eyes, etc.. The vet x-rayed her and ruled out anything skeletal.
I googled the condition and it seems back leg paralysis can suddenly afflict cats - often it's a spinal issue or embolism.
I'm just so sad for them, I wasn't sure where to post this. They've never had to put a pet to sleep like that before.

I'm so sorry to hear this. This exact thing happened to my parents' cat. Vet diagnosed a possible stroke. She did recuperate and lived many years after that.

This same thing happened to my cat. She had a saddle embolism and both back legs were paralyzed. Turns out she had an enlarged heart, that caused the blood clot. She died a few days later.
