Carrie Underwood has responded to the harsh public reaction to her less-than-impressive performance in the deeply unimpressive Sound of Music, Live!: "Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus," she Tweeted. "They will be in my prayers tonight... 1 Peter 2:1-25."
I mean, I am staunchly opposed to cyber-bullying of all sorts, and I don't think that Carrie Underwood deserved any personal attacks for her performance (she tried! And she sang some nice things!) — but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and the Sound of Music, Live! was mostly excruciating to watch.
Mostly I just wish — since prayer is now officially on the table — that someone had been praying for us during the broadcast as well as after. [NY Daily News]
Anyone who is a performing artist, be it a singer, actress, musician, etc., needs to accept that sometimes people will be critical of your performance. It comes with the job. Plus, most people were saying they LOVE her, just didn't like her performance. That was pretty tame.
I wonder if anyone, through the whole process, said anything about her acting. Tried to get her help, etc.
That's what I wonder. What kind of director let her go out there and do her thing the way she did? Was there no diction coaching at all?? And how embarrassed do you think the Broadway vets were?

I DVRed the entire thing, it sat on my DVR through yesterday. After all the bad reviews, both on here and the internet in general, I just deleted yesterday without watching. I'm really glad I did.

I think the Broadway vets were just fine with it. Without her, they would not have been performing on live national TV and it showcases how much better they are than your standard "top singer". In fact, they likely would have been more embarrassed if Carrie had knocked the entire performance out of the park.
And by even responding to the reviews, Carrie has proven she needs to stay away from Broadway.
I don't understand why you take on a role like this if you can't take criticism. Being a good singer doesn't mean you will be a good actress, and she totally should have done some kind of training in acting for this role. What an idiot if she didn't.
She really did only have enough dialogue to move the story along, now that I think about. A brief moment with the Abess, an introduction with the children, tender moment with Liesl, reunion with the captain, and Fin.
