Good morning!
We woke up in the middle of the night to our dog crying, and we couldn't figure out why. This morning when she got out of bed, it looks like her tail is injured - she's not wagging it, there's kind of a kink about an inch or two from the base, and then it kind of has a slight angle. When we touch it, or gently lifted it, she yelped and ran away. However, she was able to lift it to go to the bathroom. To you, does this sound like a broken tail, or limber tail? She's a black lab / pit mix, the temps are unusally cold right now - high 20s when we're used to 60s, and she had a big day yesterday with 11 people over at our house fawning all over her. I'm going to make an appointment with the vet, but wanted to see if anyone else has had any experience with it.
No advice, but we had the same thing happen early this morning with our 6 month lab. He was shrieking in pain in his crate, but when I opened the crate door he was able to run out. What had looked like a kink/slight angle, super quiet and cuddly. He didn't yelp when we felt it and he was able to go outside and potty normally. He's been wagging his tail since about 20-30 minutes from when whatever happened. Was his normal self with his food in the Kong Wobbler. His tail appears fine now, though he's currently chilling on the couch with me today. We spent 20 minutes wandering out front in the snow which he seemed to enjoy- he didn't want to come back inside!
Let me know what your vet says. H doesn't think he needs to go to the vet since I took off work to keep an eye on him today. I just hope he isn't scared to go back in his crate later.

Your dog is adorable! I will update once we get back from the vet - our appointment is later this afternoon. You're lucky you were able to take off work - no such thing for me. It was so sad leaving her this morning.

Update - It looks like it was just a case of lab tail, not broken, just extremely sore. The vet sent us home with some anti inflammatory pills and she seems to be doing better this morning. Can almost wag it!

had a similar problem with our own lab-pit mix...apparently they can wag too much Actually, the vet said it was probably a combo of a 5 mile walk + cold hose water bath that gave him "dead tail."
Once I realized it wasn't super serious, I wanted to put a bow on him and call him Eeyore. My husband told me I was mean, but I thought it was funny
