If you use 1/4" screws and only put them in the treads, it won't do anything to your shoes. This is quite brilliant, actually. I'm so ready to run that I'm tempted to do it to my old shoes while I wait for the ice to go away.

Hmmm...very interesting. That makes sense since the tread part is thicker.

You can buy cross country spikes and put in 1/4" spikes. I don't see why you need to modify your regular shoes..

I saw a tutorial for this once on RunnersWorld.com. My legs are so iffy, I'd be a little nervous to do anything to alter my shoes. It's rather try my hand at Stabilicers or YakTrax.
