Well, I'm going to London for the holidays. We're staying in a flat in the foodie side of the city. I'm getting a private tour of Churchill's war rooms, excursions to Canterbury and Stonehenge and Oxford, and will be witness to the Ceremony of the Keys. I think that more than covers it
Gah!!! I'm so jealous. We wanted to go back as soon as we left. Well...we enjoyed Paris first, and then when we got home, we immediately wanted to return to London.
ETA: Oh, to answer the original question, I have no idea. I have a difficult time with gift requests. Really, if we want/need something, we buy it for ourselves. I really want to take a big trip this year, so I'd be happy if we just put money towards that.
Oh geez, non-H&F gifts exist? I had pretty much forgotten.
I didn't ask for anything for Christmas this year, but I anticipate that my dad may get us a router so we can replace and hang all our interior doors with slab (instead of pre-hung) doors. We did the first door in November with his router and help.

Oxford is amazing! I spent a semester doing genetics research there in undergrad and I haven't been back since but we're hoping to finally get back over to the UK in April or May.
Oh and to answer the question - I think I want a new sewing machine but I'm kind of debating, and I've been eyeing a leopard print clutch and gold/brown leather wraparound watch.

What were your favorite places to: see, eat at, drink at? (especially the drink at...we're doing to hit up at least a pub a day)
I really got into all of the tradition and history. I think if you go, even though it gets crazy packed, you need to witness a changing of the guards. I love all of their pomp & circumstance. Get there early. I was mesmerized by Westminster Abbey, and I really enjoyed the Tower of London as well. We did the free guided tour, and it was worth it to learn some of the history you might not know. Sometimes you have to be a tourist.
The transportation is awesome, but walk everywhere! It's one big beautiful garden. One thing we didn't get a chance to do, but that I've heard is awesome, is to visit Borough Market. We were told it's a foodie dream.
My favorite day was when we watched the changing of the guards, and then walked through Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, and then all the way to Abbey Road. I totally dodged traffic to get my own album cover reenactment. Kensington Palace had a Queen Victoria exhibit I really enjoyed.
We popped in and out of just about every pub we could find. I can't even begin to remember all of them, but I do remember The Swan...I think it was in the Paddington area? The entire road this pub is on is awesome. I wish we had spent more time there. I also remember the Blackfriar. We stayed over near the abbey and Houses of Parliament, and it was maybe a 2 mile walk along the Thames to get there. Just an FYI, the beer is different there. It's mainly cask, which I enjoy, but if someone is picky with beer (I know you are not) and not expecting it, they'd definitely be surprised.
clseale, I love me some casked beer. We're doing a whole Tower day with self-guided tour, changing of the guard and ceremony of the keys. I'm stoked
You're going to love it. It's a little surreal when you really stop and think about how much history there is! It's fascinating since, compared to England, our country is so young. We were at the Tower of London and the guy was all, "And this gate right here is where King Henry VIII stood to greet Anne Boleyn and vowed to love her for life ::chuckle,chuckle:: and I was just all , "Holy shit this place is SO OLD!" lol
I was going to say warm hiking socks, but I guess that's H&F. Not really anything non H&F, but that's mainly because I'm at a point where much of my cold weather running/hiking clothes need replacing.

Ugh. Doors. You all are ambitious. We bought a house with no doors, I've probably mentioned this, so for what seemed like an eternity we did door projects.
My H would have router envy. He seems to be fascinated by them, he checks them out at every hardware store visit.
