they are such bullshit with their prices! OMG I will occassionally find something on that site, but for the most part, Toys R Us, Target and basically anyplace else has better prices.
DotAndBuzz this is why I am never able to spring for the Prime membership. I've thought about it a few times and even did the trial last year and I never bought anything because they charge too much.
Perfect example, they have the barbie plane my daughter wants for almost $100! I ordered it from Target for $59. What?
Weird. Amazon prices are typically very competitive/better than in store for the things I buy. Is the plane being sold by Amazon? Or is it a third party vendor?
You have to stalk it which can be time consuming. One day it can be full price then 25 percent off then 35. It's hard to know when to buy but never at full price.

I loved Amazon prime this year but you are right in the past two months or so I am noticing that their prices just aren't as competitive as they used to be. I will not be renewing

That is only because of Christmas Or should be anyway.

No. No you don't. You set up price alerts on camelcamelcamel.com and it emails you when the price on amazon drops to the price you want.

You're welcome.
Thank you! I would just add them to my cart then check once a day to see if it changed, then I would buy when satisfied. This seems easier.
Usually if you send Amazon the link of the cheaper advertized item they will price match.
Is that true for all items? I asked an Amazon rep this the other day and was told it was just TVs and cell phones they price match. Granted, I didn't press her much, so who knows if she really knew what she was talking about.
I've had stuff in my cart go up in price, and then drop back down, it's so frustrating. I did find the Frozen 11.5" dolls I was looking for cheaper at JcPenney (2 or more for $10 and I had a 25% off coupon) then what was on Amazon, Target, or TRU. I was very excited about that! Plus I will now be checking out camelcamelcamel.com.
I will say that their prices have changed a lot this season, and I'm not happy about it. I had 3 My Little Pony toys in my cart for $12.99 each, was still figuring out what I wanted, and waited a couple days. When I went back to finish the purchase they were literally DOUBLE in price. I was pist, to say the least. So I started looking elsewhere for the lower priced items, because yeah, I'm not paying $25 for 2 MLP ponies, even if it *is* Princess Cadence and the ever elusive Rarity (God, why do I know this shit?). After 20 minutes of looking around on other websites, Amazon's price had magically dropped back down to $12.99.
So now I'm a little squicked about them being all IN my computer and changing their prices according to my web-browsing.
I've only noticed this in the past month or so leading up to Christmas. I had a trampoline on my son's wishlist that was listed for $74 a few weeks ago and when I went to buy it this past weekend it was listed for $150. Yeah, I don't think so. I ended up finding it elsewhere for $79 + free shipping. It was a third party seller though, so I can't fault Amazon entirely for the increase in price.

Oh man - I could've used this sooner!
I was trying to buy the last two seasons of Gilmore Girls for my sis for Christmas. The prices kept changing CONSTANTLY. I finally bought them for what I figured was a good deal. Go to Target to run errands - and find them for $8/each. Woomp woomp.
I guess the advantage is I was able to ship them to her directly instead of carting them in my car boxed up for a month before I finally made it to the post office.
I don't know that I'll renew prime when its time. The free 2 day shipping has been nice, but almost all of my orders met the threshold for free 3-5 day shipping. The streaming is nice I guess, but I don't like the layout on the Roku. We have a hard time finding what's available and what we want to watch. And I don't think about looking on-line and adding it to my list often enough.
I don't go to amazon because of the prices. I used it a lot this year because it has things I can't find in other stores. Toys R Us and Target don't carry the smaller run toys I was looking for. The toy manufacturer websites tended to be a mess. They'd try and point you to small independent stores that never had the item I was looking for.
You have to watch some stuff, but usually the stuff that is sold directly from Amazon is competitively priced. Plus with the free shipping (for Prime)it is just convenient.
I just got something from them that was $17.99 and at Target it was listed at $24.99.
Sometimes they have very competitive pricing and other times they are a total rip off.
I always google search any item to try and find the best pricing with shipping costs factored in.
I currently have a trial Prime for one month which has been so helpful with Christmas shopping, but won't be keeping it. It is cost prohibitive for us as a family.
Most of the stuff I buy on Amazon is purchased because I don't want to get in my car and try to find said item. Like yesterday I ordered a travel muscle roller. I have no idea if Target would have something like that, a specific item, and I hate wasting an hour trying to find out.
There's also a browser app (or extension, I don't know the difference) called Price Blink that will find the cheapest price of any items you're looking at online.
